I chose 3. Protector of Small Things and read Blackout by Connie Willis, which features two strong females among the cast of many. Merope (who goes by the alias Eileen when she is in 1940's England ) and Polly both assume roles during the Second World War that require them to support other people emotionally, financially, and in some cases, physically. They accept help from the men in the book, but do not depend on it.
20.6 Seasoned Reader
All Clear by Connie Willis was read while sitting (lolling) under a shady tree, contemplating pulling weeds.

5.6 As American As...
American Pie: Slices of Life (and Pie) from America's Back Roads by Pascale Le Draoulec

5.10 Summer Fun
Grammar Snobs Are Great Big Meanies: A Guide to Language for Fun and Spite by June Casagrande

Soulless by Gail Carriger
10.3 Spare Me
God's Middle Finger: Into the Lawless Heart of the Sierra Madre by Richard Grant
I would not want to go to Sierra Madre- drug cartels, bandits, corruption, and a murder rate 8 times that of the most dangerous American cities.

Making Rounds with Oscar: The Extraordinary Gift of an Ordinary Cat by David Dosa
A dear friend entered an Alzheimer's care facility this week. This book was comforting.
10.9 Around the Campfire

Task 10.3 - Spare Me
1984 by George Orwell
This book was set in what was the future at the time it was published. Ominous "Big Brother is Watching You" has even become a catchphrase now in our pop culture because the idea of no privacy and always being monitored seems so uncomfortable and like virtual prison that one always feels they must guard against it really happening. Thought Police?, Tortured confessions? Abolishment of romantic love? Chronic war? Children trained to spy on parents? The nation's motto, "War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength", well need I say more? Who would want to live like that?! Hell on earth!
