10.2 - Phone Home - Starfire Angels by Melanie Nilles, a Goodreads author.

The main character is a high school senior who wakes up one morning to discover that she's sprouted wings in her sleep. The person who helps her discover her roots and come to terms with her new reality comes from a very unlikely source: the creepy guy at school (like, ohmygod!). He tells her that like her, he also belongs to the Inari race and that while humankind assumes they are angelic beings, the Inari are actually an alien race from another galaxy that has been coming to Earth for thousands of years to save and rescue humans as necessary.

Both her parents and creepy guys parents had died fighting a long-running intergalactic battle with bad guys. And now the bad guys are after the next generation, dum, dum, dum.

the author i put into the literature map was Margaret Atwood.

for the first book i chose option 2 and read a book by Ann Patchett, Run, which was a bit of a disappointment. not nearly as good as Bel Canto, but not horrible.

for the second book, i decided to go with option B, so i put Patchett in and got Bill Bryson and read A Short History of Nearly Everything which was amazing! so glad i read it!

For this task I rolled a 3, which states that the book must feature a strong female heroine or be written by a female author. This book contains both of those elements. In this book (and series, I'm assuming) Liv Bergen is sharp at the tongue, funny, and works in a nonconventional profession (she is a woman who runs a mining company). In this mystery, Liv cracks the clues just as fast as the FBI does, and is not afraid of anything, even the murderer. Awesome book, awesome heroine. I would recommend it to anyone.
