message 259: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments Oh yes....I cannot apply for financial aid until all of the transcripts are recorded.....so they sit on someone's desk (but it should be done tomorrow).

Kat (kat2011) | 68 comments Awe I LOVE pugs! I really wanted to get one, but just couldn't afford one.

Here's the lil guy I got instead! :)

He was about 1lb when we got him, he's now about 11lbs and hopefully staying that small...he's a Chion, which is a mix of a Chihuahua and a Papillion. And he's about 6 months old. We've had him 4 months

message 268: by Bunny (last edited Jan 03, 2012 07:55PM) (new)

Bunny (bunnycates) | 93 comments You can get a pug from just about any humane society, on the CHEAP. They are over bred and often bought for being "cute" and then when the people find out about all the medical issues - they dump em. Sad really.

Gump is 36lbs, Sweetz in 9.5lbs. We've had her since she was 8wks old and she's fixing to be 15yrs (no medical probs and tiny), so getting Gump a few years ago - has been a shock. He has seizures, an elongated tongue and a cleft pallet (apparently all common with pugs). But we saved him from "the pound", and we love him so I wouldn't trade him off for the world, medical issues and all. :)

omgosh, your Chion is a CUTEY!!

message 269: by Kat (new)

Kat (kat2011) | 68 comments I looked at a lot of shelters and most places for a pug were $500+ for babies and up. I even saw some that were like 7yrs old for that price. I couldn't afford it. I ended up getting the Chion from Craigslist for $80

My husband didn't really want a Pug due to the medical issues ...and *gasp* he thinks they are ugly =(

So we ended up with our lil guy who's got the best personality and our cats tolerate him haha.

at a shelter? omg! Shelters here (I mean Humane Societies) have a flat rate for dogs and a flat rate for cats, etc. Its not based on breed. I think dogs here are $65 and puppies are $80. Regardless of breed.

message 271: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1434 comments My cat was $75 and they neutered her (or is spaying for a female cat? I don't know, she's fixed, that's all i know.

message 272: by Kat (new)

Kat (kat2011) | 68 comments Yup, I looked at tons of places. Mainly "no kill" places so I think thats why they were higher, but I couldn't find one single place that had "real" breeds other then "mutts" haha because I was looking for something small as I live in an apartment. But it seemed everywhere I looked it was usually based on age and kind. But it wasn't a big difference maybe $100 difference between a puppy and an adult. Just when I was about to give up a family member discovered an ad on Craigslist and we fell in love with him the moment we saw him so I guess perhaps it was meant to be

Yes, females animals are spayed, males are neutered.

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) Dangit, the updated version taken last week didn't load. so the comparision was lost will have T2 fix it and try again.

message 282: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Cute cat, Rachel. What's your cats name?

YAY, a turtle picture. How big do they get and how long do they live, Jenn?

When I was little my sister had very dry skin and our family doctor said to go and buy her a turtle. So, off my mother went and bought 2 little turtles. We all loved those turtles. Not sure if it every help my sister's dry skin. All I knew was my mom and 2 more pets to take care of.

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) koge
The forever "kitten" Koge
The vet is sure he suffered a little brain damage before we got him, you can tell but he's sweet as can be.

message 285: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments Well my three striped mud turtles are small (fit in the palm of my hand. Fester is about 6 to 7 inches long. Tank (razorback musk turtle) is about as long as Fester but his shell is taller.

http://s1220.photobucket.com/albums/d...

These are all of my turtles. Keep in mind I am not done editing the pictures for them and I am still adding descriptions.

message 286: by Eileen (new)

Eileen Nice pictures, Jenn! Wow...that is some tank they live in, it looks huge.

message 293: by Nora aka Diva (new)

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) TY, yeah other than size and one itty spot of orange on Hiei's head they are identical. It's amazing how much they have grown since the first pic was taken in Sept.

message 294: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I call cats this age "cattens": no longer a kitten but not yet a full grown cat.

message 295: by Nora aka Diva (new)

Nora aka Diva (DuctTapeDiva) I like that term, I'll have to remember it.
