(Me during another cold.)

No. Not three. More. So many more.

So, one perk of working at home–woke up with a cold today, so I can stay in pjs and work on my laptop. The downside is I can’t curl up and sleep off the cold because I have too much work. Not that I’m complaining. I LOVE THAT I FINALLY HAVE ALL THIS WORK.

(BTW, the big downside of working at home is you always feel like you should be working. But that’s another post. LOL.)

Anyway, I have to read through one of my books all the way through today. Again. So…how many times does an author do this? Let’s see. After the many times we’ve read it while writing (this can be a LOT) and it’s off to editor:

1: First revisions.

2: Second revisions.

3. Final check.

4: Line edits.

5. Galley check.

And because I’m digital first and print second,

6: Last check for errors before print.

So, at least six full read-throughs after all the work you first put into its creation. Not all authors go through a second round of revisions, but my Samhain editor is thorough and she fact checks with me. For instance, I wanted this pretty setting color in one of my books and tried to pass off a mild winter to explain it and we’ve both now researched and realized I can’t get away with it. (Unless any of you live in southern Louisiana and can send me a message to say otherwise. It’s about kudzu. In January. )

What’s really fun is the different emotions you can go through with each read.

Oh, who am I kidding? I’m a FRAUD…

You know, I kind of like this book.

However, no matter what, I can guarantee that every author gets sick of reading their own book at some point.

I just want to leave up that last post at the top because I’m still SO excited about the Norse young adult trilogy. But I’m also very excited about my upcoming release with Samhain Publishing. Blood of an Ancient is out in exactly two weeks. Two! It’s the second book in my Beri O’Dell series.

I’m so excited to let you know that…

Harlequin Teen will be publishing my Norse YA trilogy!!!!

It will be a part of their new Harlequin Teen Digital First initiative, so the books will come out next year digitally. Official release dates and blurbs will be announced but I believe book one is due to release in March. My editor is Mary-Theresa Hussey and I already think she’s fabulous.

Right now, the trilogy is tentatively titled DAUGHTERS OF DESTINY. These are Norse YA paranormal romances featuring triplets who sacrifice everything to help stop the end of the world–Ragnarok–while knowing one of them is fated to die. Raven, Coral and Kat carry the souls of norns and each story is told simultaneously from each sister after they have to split up. The titles are:

FORETOLD

FORECAST

FORESWORN —Yes, we’re leaving in the “e” for continuity.  ;)

I’m thrilled. Absolutely thrilled. I got the call at the beginning of this year so it’s been a little hard to contain my excitement. It’s been a dream of mine to publish with Harlequin. So, the revisions I’ve been talking about lately were for the first book, FORETOLD, which features Raven and Vanir.

So, Blood of an Ancient comes out in under a month and a running theme in my Beri O’Dell books is just what is Beri and what is she capable of–what is she truly dealing with? In book two, we are introduced to the concept of her shadow and this is leading into the third book, where we’ll delve even deeper into the rather terrifying aspect of my heroine…

So… I’m toying with titles for book three and my theme song has been from one of my favorite bands, Tool. I’m serious fan. I’m talking love Maynard and all his other projects as well, but my heart was first taken by storm by Tool. Beri book #3′s theme song is this:

Then today, someone forwards this video to me and wow. I’m blow away by these kids! This is incredible. And it makes me want to be working on Beri #3 so much!
