Teachers - Would Your Pupils Like Feedback from an Author?

I'm a professional children's author and I am volunteering to provide feedback on children's creative writing.

Here are some examples of feedback I've provided for year five pupils who were set the task of describing a monster in the style of my Smelly Trolls series.

The Massive, Shiny Moon

Bold Troll in my Room

A Visit from Trollman Rabblesnatch

If you are a teacher of children aged between seven and eleven and would be interested in working with me on this kind of project, please email rosen.tre...

Kids, Get Writing With a Professional Author

Are you a child who wants to become an author? Would you like to start publishing your work right away? I've just discovered Movellas Online Writing Community. It's a space where thousands of children and young adults share their fiction.

I am so impressed with Movellas that I've set up my own group, Ask a Children's Author.

I will answer questions from children posted in the discussion forum and comment on any short stories posted to the group.

For those of you who don't already know, I'm a pro...

Free Today - The Troll Trap

Children's chapter book, The Troll Trap, is on special promotion this week. You can download the Kindle edition for free.

He's what Rebecca Davies from The Independent had to say about it:

"You can tell that Ms Trevithick was a fan of Roald Dahl when she was growing up. The stinky trolls in this story are reminiscent of the giants in The BFG and, if possible, even more revolting. Her strong authorial voice and witty prose will appeal to parents as much as children; I caught myself chortling out...

The daily book newsletter that I edit, Indie Book Bargains, is one year old today.

I've made a list of the top 10 most downloaded books, featured in the newsletter. I've limited the results to one title per author.

2. Fifty Sheds of Grey: Erotica for the Not-too-modern Male by C. T. Grey

3. Tollesbury Time Forever by Stuart Ayris

4. Gray Justice by Alan McDermott

5. In the Blood by Steve Robinson

6. Cruel Justice by M A Comley

7. Friend Request b...

Ten-Year-Olds' Classwork in Paperback

One of the smelly troll books I'm most proud of is a A Touch of Trolls. It's also the one that I can take the least credit for, because it was written by a group of ten-year-old children.

The class got to know The Troll Trap because their teacher chose to use it for guided reading. Then in the playground, she overheard the children discussing ideas for future troll books and decided to add troll story writing to the term's syllabus.

The children emailed me their first chapters and I thought the...

The Provisional Cover for Seesaw (Volume II)

How to Read a Kindle Book on your iPad or iPhone

The iPad Mini makes a particularly comfortable eReader, but some Apple users have found that they enjoy reading eBooks on their phones and full-sized tablets.

Reading a Kindle book on an iPad or iPhone is quite straight forward, once you've installed and registered the Kindle app.

To get the Kindle App

1. Using the device you wish to read from, open the app store.

2. Type the word 'Kindle'

3. Select and install 'Kindle' by AMZN Mobile LLC. You will probably be prompted to enter your iTunes passwor...

Book Lovers, Should You Switch to eBooks?

Paperbacks feel nice, look nice and add a touch of warmth to your home. Yet it's virtually impossible to catch a train or sit on the beach without seeing somebody using an eReader. So what's all the fuss about?

Here's a quick summary of the advantages and disadvantages of using an eReader. By eReader, I'm referring to a gadget such as a Kindle or Kobo. Of course there are many eReader apps for devices such as phones and multimedia tablets, but those are not the focus of this article.

Advantage...

10 Great Indie Books That Are Available in Paperback

Most book lovers know that self-publishing eBooks is a growing trend, but not everybody knows that many of the top independently published novels, are also available in paperback. Here's a summary of ten great indie paperbacks, based on my own observations about how other people respond to them.

1. In the Blood by Steve Robinson

This popular crime thriller set in Cornwall spans many generations, so you get to enjoy not just modern day Cornwall but an insight into the beautiful county's past as...
