179584 Hi there, Rachael,

Thank you for sharing your story with us here. You make a lot of good points, bring up important issues, and bring your own perspective and experiences to the table in a way that I think is very valuable here.

Unfortunately, we do have a very strict rule against self-promotional content of any kind. While we encourage you to continue sharing here, the moderator team has determined that this topic is a bit too self-promotional in nature, so I have to lock and archive it.

What we recommend is finding other topics on the discussion board where you can engage in conversation with other members about these issues and experiences. Discussions are organized by folder, and you can also utilize the search bar to the right of the discussion board to search for key words in order to find topics of interest.

Additionally, this forum is dedicated to issues of feminism in general, but specifically as that relates to our mission as a book club. Unfortunately, it is not the appropriate avenue through which to make personal or professional requests of Emma. Moderators are only in contact with Emma about this book club and its operations, so I cannot forward you to a more appropriate method of contact, but can suggest you start by attempting to reach out to her PR team in the way that professional matters are usually handled in cases like this.

I hope this helps! Sorry to have to archive your topic, but we hope we will see you around in other topics!

179584 Hi Natalie,

Thanks for the recommendation. In the interest of organization, we do not allow individual threads for book suggestions. You can suggest it for the group by following the directions here: How to Suggest a Book

Additionally, you can suggest it in relevant book lists in the book suggestion folder. Those lists are based on subject matter, genre, etc. You can start your own list if you don't see one for a particular subject or genre already, but please check first, as we will remove duplicate threads.

179584 Happiness doesn't necessarily mean finding a romantic partner, but for Harry, family (in one for or another) is a major theme throughout his arc and is a necessary component for his "happy ever after." While I didn't love the epilogue's focus on romantic partnerships, I think it was necessary to depict Harry's family unit together and thriving. Furthermore, I think that despite this focus not he family unit, the books overall make it pretty darn clear that "family" can mean many things to many people, and Harry's family is ultimately made up of far more than just his immediate relatives.

Re: Ginny, I know that I already wrote about her earlier, but I think she tends to screw up a lot earlier in the books, and even later. She's rather petulant, isn't she? Also, her blatant ownership of her sexuality has always impressed me, and I love that this is a key part of her character development and is never shamed for it. And is still "worthy" of the story's hero! That's pretty rare, especially in a story for younger audiences.

Because self-promotion is against the group rules of Our Shared Shelf as well as Goodreads in general, we cannot add a section for members to post their work. There are other groups on Goodreads and elsewhere on the internet that would be a more useful place to request writing critiques. I'm sure you can find some if you do a google search! We're mainly focused on the book club aspect of this group with a healthy dose of feminist discussion to supplement our reading :)

179584 Hi Kiho,

I'm not sure what questions you are asking, but if you have any questions about the discussion board or the group in general, you can contact any of the moderators for help. For administrative issues, you can post here: Administrative Issues

The Special Announcement folder is meant for use by Emma and the moderator team exclusively for important announcements for prioritization in the group. For this reason, I am locking and archiving this thread.

Just want to clarify again that books mentioned here will not be counted as official votes in the poll. You must vote via the poll in order for your vote to be counted. We don't want anyone to miss out!

Hi Agnes,

You can suggest books for the group by following the directions here: How to Suggest a Book

If Emma uses polling to decide book choices in the future, our suggested books list will be useful for her to pick the options from.

In order to vote for the July/August choice, You must click the book of your choice on the poll HERE. Votes cast by posting on this thread, or by suggesting books on this thread, won't be counted as official votes.

179584 Hi Lucie, there are already a number of posts about feminism and gender equality both generally a specifically. For example, this post on What is Feminism?
Please be sure to do a quick search using the bar to the right of the discussion board before posting to check if there is already a thread for that topic.

If you're interested in discussing a more specific aspect of feminism for which there is not already a discussion topic, feel free to start a new post, perhaps with a more specific title.

Hope that helps!

179584 I read a great quote earlier on my Facebook newsfeed, not sure where it originated, that pointed out how we value the male perpetrator's future while demonizing the female victim's past. We prioritize his potential by using her past as a means to discredit her.

The poll has been edited to include the titles and authors along with the covers, so it should be easier to navigate now.

Happy voting! :)

179584 Hi all, just wanted to pop in to remind everyone that Emma and her team will have to sort through these questions and it will be helpful if duplicate questions are avoided, so we recommend you read through questions posted by other members. It may even inspire you to think of additional questions!

Thanks for your help!

You can see that the previous month's book discussions are still accessible. Feel free to join in anytime!
