Ilsen | 161 comments I just saw the hands for March! For sure, I can do one of the blue or green cards! I’m almost done with Half Blood Prince and I’m about to start Caraval!

Kaley, I found a book for 24 in case you need backup :)

Any word on when we can have a peek at the March hands?"

If you'll have time to read the book for 24, go for it! All the ones I found are longer, and I don't want to push the deadline too much.

Take as many as you want! :-P Will you finish HBP after March 1, do you think?

message 258: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 161 comments Yea I have a lot of currently reading books and I don’t think I’m doing a lot of reading this weekend because of midterms so I can definitely finish it in March so it can count!

Ok, perfect. So for green we have 0, 1, 8, & 9. I know for sure it'll fit 9 (Neville/Nymphadora Tonks) but I can't think of any Z, O, or E characters that are prevalent in HBP off the top of my head. Can you? If not, I'll reserve 9 for it.

Gwen | 316 comments Okay, here is the recipe thus far:

Recipe for Void Tartlets

Ingredients:
Pastry for double-mooncrust pie (9 inches)
2 tablespoons star sugar
1 tablespoon celestial starch
1 package (12 ounces) frozen unsweetened black-hole berries
1 tablespoon ultra-tart lemon juice

Topping:
1/3 cup heavy cosmic cream, siphoned from the Milky Way
1/4 cup lemon curd
1 teaspoon star sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Black food coloring
Fresh black-hole berries, optional

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 4000°. On a lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/8-in. thickness. Using a 4-in. round cookie cutter, cut 12 circles, rerolling scraps as necessary. Press circles onto bottoms and up sides of ungreased muffin cups to create your craters.
2. Mix star sugar and celestial starch; toss with berries and lemon juice. Spoon 2 tablespoons filling into each crater. Bake on a lower oven rack until pastry is crusty and black and filling is smoking, 2-4 minutes. Cool for several light years before removing to set on a satellite panel.
3. For topping, beat cosmic cream until soft peaks form. In another bowl, mix lemon curd, star sugar, black food coloring, vanilla and 1 tablespoon cosmic cream; fold in remaining cosmic cream. Spoon over filling. If desired, top with fresh black-hole berries. Refrigerate until ready to eject contents into the black inky void.

Gwen | 316 comments I hope it works for what we need! I'm glad I could work on it, I was bored at work... :-)

I can read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman The Graveyard Book for the 3 Blue card. CL Liza Hempstock.

I can also read Garden Spells (Waverley Family, #1) by Sarah Addison Allen Garden Spells for the 8 Green card. CF Emma Clark

If needed, I can also read Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O'Neill Lullabies for Little Criminals for one of the 1 Green cards. Author Heather O'Neill

Elena | 419 comments The recipe is fantastic!!! Thank you so much for doing this, Gwen, love it!

I can do one of Blue 8 with A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan , if approved lol. It looks blue to me, but it's one of those hues I'd rather have confirmed :)

message 270: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Gwen -- Those should all work. let me know if you will be reading all three or just one or two -- I can write you down for those.

Elena -- Looks blue to me, but I'll ask because I understand about those hues!

I can take one of the 8 Blues also

message 271: by Elena (new)

Elena | 419 comments Thank you, Kaley! And I meant approved by the team, didn't mean to create any more work for you, sorry :)

message 272: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments No worries, it is a simple ask! Plus, I always like having the confirmation from other team capts -- that way I have more protection if it's challenged.

It got 3 votes for blue (and no votes for anything else) so far and usually we only get a few responses so I feel comfortable saying we're good to go with blue!

Ok so I found everything for Half Blood Prince so it can go for any of those:

0 - Character LN Blaise Zabini
1 - Character LN Garrick Ollivander
8 - Character LN Lily Evans (although this one is a stretch)
9 - Character FN Neville Longbottom

For Caraval, the only thing I found was one character named Hector but he doesn’t even speak so I doubt he counts for 3 Blue. I’ll mention it anyways to see if it is allowed but if not, I guess I’ll just use it for a regular card 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gwen | 316 comments Kaley wrote: "Gwen -- Those should all work. let me know if you will be reading all three or just one or two -- I can write you down for those."

Kaley - I will definitely read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman The Graveyard Book and Garden Spells (Waverley Family, #1) by Sarah Addison Allen Garden Spells but I'm on the fence about Lullabies for Little Criminals by Heather O'Neill Lullabies for Little Criminals, I'll look it over again and let you know.

Should I submit the Void Tartlet recipe to UNO Pixie? Or is that something the captains will do?

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Natasha wrote: "I'm planning on reading Three Hours by Rosamund Lupton for March. Would this count as a Blue cover?"

I'm going to ask in the capts group. It's kind of a grayish blue so I'm not sure.

I'm going to mark HBP down for 9 Green since I have something that will work for 0 Green.

For Caraval -- Usually they need to have speaking roles for it to count. So we may just have to use it for a regular card, unless upon reading you find something!

OK, I'll mark you down for 3 Blue and 8 Green for now. If you decide to do the last one later and we still have color cards open, just let me know :)

And I submitted the recipe last night so we are all good on that front. Thanks again for doing that!

message 284: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments Ok, for color cards this is who I have written down so far. Does this look right to everyone? Am I missing anyone?

0 Blue
3 Blue - Gwen
8 Blue - Elena
8 Blue - Kaley
0 Green - Kaley
1 Green - M
1 Green
8 Green - Gwen
9 Green - Ilsen

And then we do still have two Wild Draw 4s, so any of the above can be duplicated for those.

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments M wrote: "I just need a clarification on one thing. If I start a couple of books now but don't finished them until Saturday or Sunday can they be used for the March cards?"

Yes! As long as they were started after the challenge started, they can be used in the month they’re finished during. So depending what time you finish them, they can be used for either feb or March (Countdown is in the info post on the first page of the thread, but I’ll post it here again in a few hours because I’m going to post another update)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1571 comments update

February, final days — PLEASE READ

Hi all,

I just wanted to check in and see where we all stand for the end of the month so I can see how many more books will be coming in.

If you will have another book(s) by the end of the month, please let me know so I can plan accordingly. Right now we have 7 books left (one is my 1 Blue -- so technically 6). There are three spots left in the mini, but they should all be accounted for.

Elena and Laila -- are you still planning to finish your 24 and 120 books before the deadline?

The countdown to the start of March is here. As of the time of my posting, we have just under 41 hours left to finish up February.

Who all will have another book before Feb ends? If you know that you won't finish anything else in Feb, let me know that as well please :)
