Another disturbing possibility - the antibodies seem to decline and fade away in patients that have been infected and recovered
Is the real danger here then the greater r-nought factor and contagion vis-a-vis common cold that COVID possesses and its potential long-term impact on the economy if we try to go back to normal?
The amount and rate of sickness would be too costly and the pressure on our health facilities too great. In other words then, will masks, social distancing and so on be here for good? And maybe temp lock-downs will come in waves as a consequence?
If a vaccine is useless at that juncture then tech solutions would be the next logical step, i.e. greater automation , remote working and so on. The down-side is that this would demand addressing mass job displacement and providing alternative roles, re-configuring the economy to suit and so on.
But that was always on the cards anyway and COVID solutions could potentially speed up deployment here, while also helping to ease the 'shock' of mass replacement and justify the adoption of that(how convenient).
What you say could almost have the potential to parallel this Planet of the Apes scenario I've linked below, particularly if a stronger strain appeared(which has in Kazakhstan) or COVID itself mutates into a stronger or deadlier strain.

A technological mission creep. It will start off in a 'specialist' capacity and then some bright innovation will emerge where they can amalgamate and consolidate tests into one swoop for health, insurance purposes and so on.
The tech is slowly gaining traction. Those Fitbit watches that take your pulse or apps that can measure your macro-nutrient intake will evolve and extend to urine, human waste, sweat, salivia samples and so on being able to be took an analyzed from the comfort of your own home house.
Mood and stress analysis may accompany that as your mental health has baring too on your physical health and from that you can see all sorts of data gathering to compliment a host of areas from medical to law.

This is throwing it out here, but imagine if also in the future this type of technology was deployed to gather the current ableness, health or efficiency of a human worker(almost like a mini version of Gattica) and perhaps you might find, at least in the early stages, this being deployed to weed out weaknesses or force people to set increased standards and benchmarks if competing against automation.
Might find this being useful if in a future automated world scarcity of work causes folk to be employed and paid on an ad-hoc basis(which digital currency might facilitate better?).
Perhaps you find scenarios where companies are given incentives or even subsidies to hire humans and this kinda tech compliments the hiring process to try keep up a standard in the face of their 'mechanical' counterparts?
It's almost like how sometimes in certain scenarios they hastily implement and subsidize some Green Tech(i.e.e windmills)at the behest of economy even although more efficient fossil fuel solutions could be deployed instead for what ever particular scenario.
Who knows? But what I've learned from COVID is that the door is now open for future drastic measures and solutions as we're becoming habituated to the shock and accompanying impact felt from 'sweeping measures' being implemented as the best courses of action whether commensurate or 'over the top'.

Everything speeding up during Rona time, however - so maybe next year or two?!
Oh, and in case anyone has forgotten the fatality rate according to the CDC remains at 0.26%...That means in theory you have a 99.74% chance of survival...Not bad odds, but wait, it gets better: If you're younger than 70 or fit and healthy or at least don't have an already weakened immune system, the chances of survival are much greater than 99.74%...
However, let's ignore those details as I'm enjoying Ian and Iain's PLANET OF THE APES Armageddon story going on in this thread - reading it is nice fun entertainment and takes my mind off all the horrific measures being done "in the name of" zee virus :)

Mate your picking me up wrong. I am not putting emphasis on fatality more on the impact of people suffering and the knock-on effect from that. Not everyone dies sure, but it can temporarily incapacitate.
Now imagine, as Ian suggested in our immunity being short-lived, that scenario constantly in a repeating cycle with folk continuously going to hospital and having to go off work, or simple stuff like not being able to look after kids or the threat of passing it on and so into perpetuity. There would be a drain on resources, especially if happening along side common flus and to compound matters 'lockdown' or even the stress via fear of catching the virus can causing other health issues to arise in tandem.
My argument is the danger found in the potency of the r-naught factor.
An analogy could be found in Mustard Gas. It was one of the most potent weapons of WW1. It wasn't an all out killer but it temporarily took soldiers out from fighting and had a major impact on the outcome.

What about future pandemics? COVID mightn't have a monopoly here.
Other's might emerge and there's signs of this danger.
See:
https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/...
It's also worth being reminded mate that the 'reaction' and live 'petri dish' component arisen in the wake of stemming COVID and the impact it has had on society, politics, the economy and so on that you've covered, has also proven it could be a useful asymmetric weapon for some countries that can handle the 'blowback' while perhaps providing an artifice of concealment in attribution to avert blame or response(if it already isn't that?)
This might encourage future developments in bio-weaponary from Bad Actors. Food for thought . . . .

As for whether a vaccine is possible, we don't know, but the evidence appears to be that for some people the level of antibodies after infection declines, and have disappeared over two to three months. If infection does not give immunity, a vaccine probably won't.

I fear that there may be no long term benefit of a vaccine, although I suppose you could revaccinate more frequently. But if the virus remains as dangerous and behaves like a cold, then yes, there will be strict economic consequences. If everybody in a region either vaccinated at the same time, or locked down at the same time, we could eliminate this virus in said region. NZ has shown it can be done, even if returning people are now trying their best to reintroduce it. The problem with this approach is it has to be EVERYONE, and there will inevitably be some who claim some right not to cooperate, and they will keep the virus alive.

So Ian, for a vaccine to work( and for us to avert that pesky looming Armageddon scenario) MASS vaccination in one swoop could be a solution?

Let's just vaccinate ourselves daily, Ian. That'll do it. A daily vaccine forever.
And where you say "if the virus remains as dangerous" you mean as dangerous as a 99.74% recovery rate on average for any aged citizen? (as per the CDC's 0.26% fatality rate) Or were you referring to the Armageddon story you and Iain are co-writing here? If so, I'm enjoying this story? Are you going for a novel or a short story publication? Or how about a Netflix blockbuster?
See, jokes aside, I am seriously focusing on how this will end if the majority sticks to this Bill Gates narrative that the ONLY way to ever beat this is a vaccine or a cure (instead of considering the Swedish model).
That's why I just uploaded this 20 second video where Gladys Berejiklian (Premier of New South Wales here in Australia who is rumoured to be about to follow the state of Victoria and put NSW into 3-4 more months of total lockdown) says "Until we have a vaccine or a cure...life will not be normal." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eCtz...
So what if there is no vaccine that works? What if there is no cure? What will happen eventually? How long can the world (including vulnerable poorer nations) endure Coronavirus measures like nation-wide lockdowns, regional quarantines, self-isolation of numerous citizens and other restrictions?
I mean, might it be possible we could actually reach Armageddon not because of the virus but because of all the measures being done in the name of the virus which could create economic meltdown, immense global poverty, increased crime and eventually new wars?
Or were you referring to the Armageddon story you and Iain are co-writing here? If so, I'm enjoying this story? Are you going for a novel or a short story publication? Or how about a Netflix blockbuster?

Compare that to the new French Prime Minister who recently said "the economic and human consequences from a total lockdown are disastrous"...
France rules out 'total lockdown' in case of new COVID-19 spike https://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2...
The French government said Wednesday it is preparing for a second wave of COVID-19 cases that could emerge in the coming months, but will not respond with another nationwide lockdown to contain the outbreak.
"My aim is to prepare France for an eventual second wave, while preserving our daily life, our economic and social life," new Prime Minister Jean Castex said in an interview on RTL television.
"But we're not going to impose a lockdown like the one we did last March, because we've learned... that the economic and human consequences from a total lockdown are disastrous," he said.

Shall we go for the title Rona Wars mate?
you like that?
it has mystery to it as the wars could be wars over the virus, or the wars could be due to the virus containment measures that eventually lead to new wars.
I agree with you tho Iain, the interrelated geopolitics of all this is worth monitoring. I mean, poverty is nations like Indian is rising by the day and they are at breaking point with lockdowns and other restrictions, I'm hearing from Indian friends. So...Could that eventually trigger someone like Indian PM Modi to attack a nation like Pakistan or even China (I guess he's already had skirmishes with Chinese soldiers on the border there, right?)

Swap the N for an M for the first word? If there's an M in there it would definitely entail a more fictional aspect to it and by appending DS to war it could be an acronym for drug squad too.

True he was wooden, but you're not getting the deeper levels of Alf's multiverse that he's somehow created within the limited bandwith of H&A.
That actor only looks wooden to you as he's thinking to himself "hang on a minute, if Alf walked in on a dirt floor, then I cannot be in the same modern Sydney hospital I was in before the surgery. This must be some kind of experiment and I've been shipped off to Papua New Guinea. Maybe even a Rona experiment!"

Rona Coleman is an anagram for Corona 'n Male...

No offence Roth, but I can use Google as a temp Dr and typing in a search engine for the causes of a sore toe can lead me to suggestions it could be the onset of Ebola.

It might be true though and if not(?) maybe your average Joe will see through it; if they try and make it uglier than what it really is, eh?
But don't bet your house, land or even your life on it lest you lose everything on a distorted view . . . .

Are the WEF actually calling it the Great Reset?

Are you saying you believe this Roth?
Or that Fauci does?
The story is getting more and more insane...
What next?

Iain this WEF old boy mentions this 2020 is a "decarbonization of society" and that will "save us from an environmental crisis"!

I certainly don't believe it but I don't think for one second that Fauci does either. They're just going to keep escalating this "crisis" until they get the reaction they want: the masses begging the powers that be to save them. Meanwhile, anyone who doesn't buy it will be seen as the enemy. It's already happening.

Yeah imagine that. What's the next after immobilizing or constricting our movement via transport? Being taxed on the amount of CB you exhale or ordered to restrict how much you can breathe?
I am all for nature as it needs a voice and we're destroying it, but to what extent and how valid is the solutions?
Notice how the 'ol boy' mentioned there was a geopolitical split and now this is an opportunity to pull together?
I was thinking it has caused precisely the opposite in the sense that countries will have discovered how prone they are and become more protectionist as a result, and no doubt that is further influenced by economic stagnation caused by this.
The terming used here in the word 'reset' intimates there's a 'tabula rasa' moment for global relations to start again on good terms. If anything countries will be more parsimonious and suspicious than before due to the handling of this and the question marks over origin.
