Skye | 636 comments Thanks for sharing, Amber: would love to be in AZ, now. Are you on insulin, and if so, does that create hypoglycemia?

I was very young when I learned to read, too.

message 252: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Yeah I am and yes it can. But sometimes so will Metformin as well and I'm on that too..as well as Actos.

message 253: by Skye (new)

Skye | 636 comments Do have sugar tabs or Karo Syrup when you get dizzy?

Skye, I am Việt Kiều (Overseas Vietnamese). My heart filled with warmth when you referred to my place of birth as Sài Gòn. I immigrated to Canada when I was a child. I believe it's mostly the older generation that speak French fluently. My grandparents generation.

Where does your interest in the Vietnamese culture come from? Have you visited Vietnam?

message 255: by Christine (new)

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Thanks for your list, Amber. I thought you lived in Tennessee for some reason. Maybe that was Groovy? What kind of dog was Buttercup? I had a little Irish Setter named Chloe from age 4 to 14. I still see her clear as day in my dreams about once a year.

Yes Amber, I am on Metformin and exercise, three a day, but have more problems which them going too low.

message 257: by Amber (last edited Jun 19, 2015 09:42AM) (new)

Amber Martingale Questions answered:
1. I don't like Karo brand syrup. I use glucose tabs when I have them. If I don't, I use plain old sugar packets, if I have them. When I don't, I use hard candy if I have that. If I don't have hard candy, I use regular soda. If I don't have that, then I'm screwed into going to the hospital or asking the library staff for a can of soda from their lounge in the library basement, Skye.

2. Buttercup was a Cockerpoo, Christine.

3. This week alone, I've had hypoglycemic incidents on 60, 55 and 50 units of my Humulin 70/30, Sean, so I decided to try 45 units today.

message 258: by Skye (new)

Skye | 636 comments Amber, you have to keep Karo on hand whether you like it or not.

message 259: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Why Karo brand in particular?

message 260: by Skye (new)

Skye | 636 comments Vy wrote: "Skye wrote: "I don't know the meaning, Vy, but I am familiar with it and the culture, people, etc. I don't know, however, if you speak French and Vietnamese or just Vietnamese, and whether or not ..."
Dear Vy: I will never think of Saigon as Ho Chi Minh City. I had no idea you were born in Vietnam. You look like a lotus flower, dear Child; I am more than very familiar with this culture and the warm people---generous people.

message 261: by Skye (new)

Skye | 636 comments Amber wrote: "Why Karo brand in particular?"

Amber; if there is any other of brand of corn syrup, then get that. PLEASE

message 262: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale I'm NOT putting GMO corn syrup in my body, especially since NONE of my doctors recommends corn syrup for hypoglycemia!

message 263: by Skye (new)

Skye | 636 comments Oh, Amber, I am so sorry; you need to listen to your doctors, of course, and no one else.

message 264: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Yeah. They all recommend plain fruit juice or 4 oz. regular soda.

Unfortunately, how much of that regular soda is STILL sweetened with REAL cane sugar and not HFCS, GMO or not? And even with the soda still sweetened with cane sugar, how much of that cane sugar is non-GMO?

message 272: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee What kind of books does your sister write? Like Amber said--Allergic to velvet? I suffer from panic and anxiety attacks. If you knew how I grew up, and what I've had to deal with, you'd understand why:)

message 273: by Amber (new)

Amber Martingale Yeah, I'd never heard of that kind of fabric allergy before.

message 274: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 12, 2015 08:24AM) (new)

1. I don’t eat fish (I don’t like it).
2. I am half-blooded: half Scottish, half Italian.
3. I hate summer.
4. I love children but I don’t have any, by choice.
5. A few years ago I had the greatest job I could dream of, but I left it and sold anything I owned to live in the woods, because that's what I wanted and I believe in change.
6. My first job (I was 13) was taking care of my neighbour's garden during the summer. I offered myself for the job, full of good intentions, but after the summer all the plants were dead because I gave them too much water. I felt so miserable I gave the money back. The following year I beg to do it again, my neighbour agreed (bless him) and I did a great job. Epic fail/win!
7. I don’t wear jewellery, it makes me feel chained and I don’t know why.
8. I am the worst reviewer ever. Here’s why I just rate and carefully don’t write reviews. They would be full of “amazing!” “that was great!”, “Woah!”, “Tally-ho!”. So very technical -_- .
9. Most of the time I pretend I don't hear phone calls even though I hear them perfectly but I just don't want to answer.
10. I’m an atheist.

message 275: by E. (new)

E. | 653 comments Hey rokovoko, #5 is in my plans. I dream of it sometimes.
#9, I'm with ya. As much as the phone is in my hands, I rarely actually talk on it if I can help it.

8)The only thing I hate is golf.
9)I wrote my first novel, Heather, whilst sailing singlehanded across the Pacific Ocean.
10)I dream vividly every night, and sometimes cannot wait to sleep and enter that other world.

Christine (clt04) | 4838 comments Wow, A.J., you are one impressive dude!!

message 279: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments The mermaid is better than a partridge in a pear tree, I guess. And how can you stay exactly the same weight for 35 years? The travel and adventure is incredible, especially building your own boat too.

message 280: by A.J. (new)

A.J. Sendall (ajsendall) | 6 comments Thanks, Christine :-)
@ Jean, you're right about the mermaid, and I'm as perplexed as anyone about the constant weight as I eat like two horses. I guess I was lucky on both counts.

message 281: by Jean (new)

Jean | 2382 comments Uh, A.J. I think horses eat a lot of fiber. (I am NOT saying that makes you full of BS!) maybe you eat good,i.e., healthy food? And burn a lot of calories! Anyway, welcome to our group. It's a good way to build name recognition if you're an author and we always like chatting up new peple as well as discovering new favorite writers.

Everybody who cared to comment did?

Maybe we can jumpstart things if someone (like me?) lists 10 more random facts.

1/ I love cold weather, hate heat and humidity.
2/ If I had to live anywhere other than here (Northeast PA), I'd chose Arizona.
3/ I drink close to 2 pots of coffee every day.
4/ If both my hands aren't busy with something, I have a book in the free one.
5/ I'm a bit (okay, a lot) vain when it comes to my hair - I hate it when the wind messes it up.
6/ I'm compulsive about keeping some things (like the tools in my tool chest) neat but a first class slob about most everything else.
7/ My wife has to nag me into buying new clothes.
8/ I find science fiction and fantasy totally unbelievable.
9/ I'd rather spend the 3 hottest days of the year working on my cars than 1 hour doing yardwork on the perfect day.
10/ Most TV commercial annoy me to the point where I refuse to patronize the store or buy the product.

Let's see if that gets things moving again, Sean
