Karl Morgan | 4 comments I'm happy to announce that book 3 in my Dave Brewster Series, The Hive, was given an honorable mention at the Southern California Book Festival.

My series is about a man from our time who jumps into the future to rekindle mankind's spirit of adventure. In The Hive, Dave and his friends discover that humanity actually evolved in the Andromeda Galaxy. Humans came here millions of years ago to colonize our Milky Way. They travel to Andromeda and discover that no matter how advanced our society and technology become, we take our thirst for power and dominance with us.

The book is available at most online bookstores in paperback and e-book versions. It may soon be coming to a Barnes and Noble store near you. I hope you check it out.

Doctor Who: The What Where and How: A Fannish Guide to the TARDIS-Sized Pop Culture Jam

To celebrate the 50th anniversary release this week, the book will be FREE on Kindle Nov 21-25

http://www.amazon.com/Doctor-Who-What...

There’s also a paperback giveaway at https://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/sh...

Doctor Who is a show about science fiction and fandom itself for the fans within us all: The Tenth Doctor loves Harry Potter, the Eleventh Doctor wears costumes. As the franchise riffs off Star Trek, Star Wars, and Hitchhiker's Guide, while debating the nature of fiction itself, it both celebrates the world's most popular works and takes its place among them.

Per fans’ request, this book contains no images of weeping angels.

T.C. Filburn (tcfilburn) | 98 comments Hi all. Here is my offering, my debut Fantasy/Sci-Fi/Humour novella:

Martifius: The Wizard of the Eastwood
Martifius The Wizard of the Eastwood by T. C. Filburn

Martifius was a wizard. A very bored wizard. Bored, and thoroughly fed up with his lot. His life as a wizard had just not panned out the way he had been expecting when he first learned of his talent all those years ago. His dream of visiting mysterious and magnificent far-off worlds and doing great and glorious deeds had long since been shattered into a billion tiny pieces of insignificant tedium. His expectation of becoming a mystical and mythical hero for children to sing songs about long after his days had really not been realised at all. His existence had been utterly and interminably dull for a very long time, and his powerful and merciless fraternity made livening it up pretty much impossible. Still, at least the pay was good!

A simple, humorous tale about one wizard and all that has gone wrong with his life, with wizarding in general, and with the galactic transport industry.

Martifius: The Wizard of the Eastwood is the debut novella from new author T.C. Fulburn

Nathan Coops (icoops) | 3 comments Hello All,
I'm new to the group and a debut author as well. In Times Like These is my first novel. It's the first of a time travel adventure series. In Times Like These introduces Ben Travers to a world filled with time travelers, an ever expanding universe of trouble, where finding his way home may be the least of his problems.

Amazon reviews have had this to say:
"An excellent read. The story caught me up and it was difficult to put down. His explanation of time travel was well done and allowed you to just roll with the story. A very exciting adventure no matter how troubling and painful for those on it."

"Truly fabulous and fresh. It's not that it was a new version of time travel, that introduces a new method, or peril, or interpretation. It really doesn't. It's absolute canon for the genre. But it is solid, compelling storytelling which makes me want to read more."

"I have to admit I'm not a big sci-fi/time travel fan but read this in 3 days and LOVED it! It's a great read for EVERYONE... not just the sci-fi fans!"

C.W. (desmorph) | 6 comments I am proud to announce the release of my fourth book, This Garden of Souls! I invite everyone to check it out!! Go to: http://cwkesting.com/This_Garden_of_S... Or: http://www.wings-press.com

While you're there, check out my previous three novels as well!!

This Garden of Souls is an existential tale that speculates on the essence of human awareness, the consequences of free will and the origin of mankind. Set within the Institute for Human Studies – an enigmatic Collective that claims to devote its vast resources toward improving the human condition - the story chronicles the lives of three mysterious individuals.

Alternating between interview excerpts and first person oral histories, we follow these characters through a sequence of progressive dialogues. Their tragic and fractured pasts are revealed, their human frailty is exposed and the very significance of their lives is questioned. As the tale unfolds, they begin to understand that they share a suspiciously high degree of synchronicity with one another. Over time, they come to terms with the consequences of their choices and the circumstances of their shared realities, realizing that their world and the people in it are not at all what they seem.

In the end, traditional versions of the Story of Mankind are shattered—replaced by a radical, yet elegant new paradigm of the Universe, forever challenging how we conceptualize our reality and ourselves.

Alex Cord | 6 comments Can one man change the way the entire world thinks?

Johnny Grant is a world famous movie star with a passionate social conscience and a gift of clairvoyance. Intensely discontent with man's inhumanity to man, contemptuously critical of corruption in government, greed, selfishness, he's convinced the human race is headed for self-destruction. Depressed by an insistent awareness of his impotence to affect the changes he feels would improve life for all of us, he hungers for power. Ultimate power.

Filming in Australia, he inexplicably vanishes without a trace. Instant news Worldwide. A turbulent, national manhunt ensues. Three days later he returns with an unbelievable explanation. Realizing the fantastic nature of his story, and lacking evidence, he refuses to be put in the position of convincing anyone. Is what he says true or not? Midst a media frenzy, his fame and influence explode in controversy.

Will it bring him the power he craves?

S.A. Check (sacheck) | 7 comments Hi...I'm S.A. Check and I enjoy writing Science Fiction and Fantasy novels, which is fortunate because I have a new book out with Bedlam Press, an imprint for Necro Publications, a leader in modern horror fiction, urban fantasy, sci-fi, weird westerns, and humor fiction.

What if while walking towards that final white light you saw a door? Would you take it? What if you didn't have a choice?

Welcome to GreenGrass is a sci-fi fantasy adventure exploring what happens when a police officer from Earth is thrown into an alien city, trapped beneath an invisible dome, and forced to find a killer, when all he wants is to find a way home.

Some early reviews hail it as "Men in Black meets interplanetary Columbo" "a darkly humorous edge" and "combines elements of J.K. Rowling, R.L. Stine, and Mickey Spillane into a wholly original tale."

Book trailer http://youtu.be/FdIKfBSydOg

Josh Lisec, author of Phoenix Reich writes, "Asterion" is the kind of novel that doesn't come around too often. But when it does, snatch it up. You'll be up until five a.m. Or longer. What drew me into this speculative techno thriller is the combination of realism and relatability. Taylor Scott's personality and values remind me of the wise sages I've met in church circles. But "Asterion" is anything but churchy. The character's faith is a mainstay of the novel, but the main event was the all-too-real conspiracy in the Big Brother setting. The idea that "Asterion" can actually happen tomorrow made me take it off the sci-fi shelf...and give it a home on the nonfiction one. If you want a peek at a dystopian future that many of today's pundits are prophesying, "Asterion" is the read for you.” Five star review

The future is coming. Are you ready?

Margaret Millmore | 107 comments The Dragonfly Door by Margaret A. Millmore
Genre: time travel/thriller/suspense
The Dragonfly Door
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FL572Q4

Synopsis: Most people would envy Frank Mann for living off a trust fund in beautiful San Francisco. But Frank was directionless and spiraling downward – lonely, drinking heavily, getting into brawls. He was sitting at a bar when above the gleaming bottles he first glimpsed the thing that would change his life forever.

“It was the largest dragonfly I’d ever seen. Its wings were silver and its body a luminescent blue-green, almost metallic. I swear it was looking right at me.”

But it wasn’t looking at him. It was looking for him. Because it wasn’t a dragonfly at all. It was a door into the future. And it was sent to find Frank Mann for one specific reason: because only he could save mankind from extinction. (for a more detailed synopsis, visit www.margaretmillmore.com)

Kyle Larson | 5 comments Hello everyone,
My name is Kyle Larson and I just released my first novel, Find the Star, through Amazon's Kindle Direct Project. I was very excited to find this group here on Goodreads and have enjoyed reading summaries of all your books. I'm looking forward to making a list and getting started on reading and reviewing as many as I can.

Find the Star takes place hundreds of years in the future. The galaxy has been widely colonized, but humanity has discovered habitable solar systems are not as ubiquitous in the cosmos as they thought when they set out. This is not due to position of planets in a solar system, but rather the alien and lethal radiation emitting from the stars themselves. A shortage in these habitable systems has caused countless wars that have lasted hundreds of years.

The story begins at the relative end of this strife. The galaxy has become a bit quieter, but that is only because the conflicts have moved to the outer limits of humanity's expansion. Marshal Tyron Noel has been hired by a prominent political leader to investigate the disappearance of her daughter. Her daughter, Tendai, just so happens to be the most elite pilot in the galaxy and a captain in Earth's Fleet.

As Marshal sets out to find her he quickly realizes there is much more than just a kidnapping at foot. A criminal master has returned and has set a plan in motion that will spin the galaxy into chaos, and ultimately, destruction.

Find the Star

It is available for purchase on Amazon, but if anyone here is interested in reading and reviewing I would be happy to email you a copy.

Thank you for taking a moment to read my post and I look forward to being a part of this community.

Setlu Vairst | 57 comments Hi, my name is Setlu Vairst and I am a fantasy\sci-fi writer. I have recently released my first eBook which will be free between 24-26 Dec.

Unicorn - Journey Beyond Forever
Flack, a crippled unicorn, must complete a dangerous trek across a strange land where he and all beasts are ruthlessly hunted by the rampaging humans.

After losing his parents, the young unicorn is guided through the land by other creatures, some of whom seem to know more about him than he does himself.

There is a hope of sanctuary in a place called Essilon, the place where the beasts will have their final stand against the evil human armies. All the unicorn has to do is to stay alive and reach Essilon and there, if he survives the great battle to come, perhaps he will find a future for himself.

I wrote this book because I wanted to deliver a story of a world as seen through the eyes of the animals. I wanted to bring their thoughts and emotions into the book and use that to drive the story. I wanted to show the humanity in beasts that the humans themselves have lost.

Like I said it's free so check it out, if you like what you read and leave me an honest review of it here at Goodreads and (fingers crossed) at either Amazon or Barns&Noble I'll send you the next book of the series "A Warrior's Journey" for free! A Warrior's Journey A Warrior's Journey (The Warrior Kind, #2) by Guy Stanton III

Book Blurb for A Warrior's Redemption
Genre: Science Fiction / Epic Fantasy

When Roric was born little did he know that his family would die violently as he watched and that his world would crumble only to later find himself chained into the life of a slave forced to survive in the world of the arena where every match meant death for someone, but he survived and one day he escaped.

A Warrior’s Redemption is the beginning of a family saga that starts with a boy named Roric. He lives on a distant world that is full of unrest, where disputes are settled by the sword. Little is known of how they came to this world, only that they came from a place known as Earth, in the distant past. How they came is a mystery that some want to discover again while others would gladly die to keep those secrets from ever seeing the light of day. Roric’s father tired of keeping the secrets of his ancestors, from the people of his nation, forsakes his family’s oath, and leaves to find peace in another land. Little did he know that the wickedness of the land that he settles in would kill him and all his family, except for his oldest son, Roric. Roric, embittered by seeing the death of his family, finds himself sold into slavery. He becomes a survivor in the arena, where man is matched to the death against man and beast alike. He escapes only to pursue a life of vengeance against those who afflicted him and killed his family. Tormented by a life without peace, he remembers the guiding words of his mother, which open up a path of redemption that becomes the guiding influence of his life. Through acts of intrigue and deception he is lead to the awareness of the darker menace within a spiritual world that is unseen, but that he is no less involved in. He travels to the land of his ancestors, a place of majestic mountains and the valleys that lie between them that are settled by a people that exist in peace only because of the warriors that have fought and died to keep them so. It is in protecting these people that Roric finds a reason worth fighting for. He grapples with the long held secrets of his family and unlike his father before him, decides to fight so that his people can remain free. He rises above his humble past to become a leader that inspires a nation in its fight for survival and becomes a legend.

Best Regards,
Guy Stanton III

Setlu Vairst | 57 comments Hi

The 2nd book in my series 'The Occasion Mists' was released today on Amazon Kindle as an eBook. The book is called 'Danny And The Seagull Who Came Back... From The Dead!'
The book is aimed at young teens to adults and, though humorous, deals with a number of adult issues, such as the loss of a loved one, bullying, and more.
The story is primarily seen through the eyes of a young boy, Danny, and his best-friend, Bongo Wiggins, who is a Seagull, albeit a deceased seagull. Segments of the story are delivered through the points of view of various other characters/creatures.
The blurb
Would You Be-Leaf It?
A boy who is all alone in the world, a seagull from heaven who wears a party hat and red jacket, and two dogs who have escaped from the dog pound, all have an amazing adventure when they ‘shrink down in size,’ and travel to Caterpillar Kingdom to do battle with an evil alien called Chagga Toombe.
The seagull angel has been allowed to return to Earth for just a few days and the Owl God can only hope that the seagull does not discover, and use, all of the powers at his disposal.
Watching over them is the mysterious Ada, and Danny, Bongo Wiggins, Brixan, and Little Jakey, all get themselves into some strange situations, brought about by the seagull angel and together, upon this journey, they all learn the true meaning of friendship and love.
Meanwhile, Bird Heaven is visited by the Dog God, the Bee Queen, and the Spider Queen, all of whom are greatly concerned by the events that are occurring on Earth; events that are happening because the seagull angel has begun to use his magical powers.

A trailer for the book can be viewed here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE69h...

I am just sorting out some dates to run the book as a free promotion. I have book #1 free between the 24-26 Dec and and trying to decide whether to do this the same or immediately after. I will update here when the deed has been done...

Thanks

Setlu

Joyce Reynolds-Ward (joycereynoldsward) | 16 comments Hi Folks! I just joined the group and, well, the easiest way to introduce some of my work is to send you to my Amazon Author page. There you'll find links to the three Sky Warrior Press anthologies that I have stories in (How Beer Saved the World, Zombiefied, and Gears and Levers 1). Sadly, even though I'm included in the River anthology edited by Alma Alexander, I've not gotten that added yet. But River is a seriously cool anthology with great authors...check it out!

http://www.amazon.com/Joyce-Reynolds-...

There are also links to my current publications in the Netwalk Sequence series. The Netwalk Sequence is a neuropunk ski bum family saga about four generations of strong, powerful women who struggle with the tensions between technology, politics, family, and the implications/impact of a mysterious artifact which may or may not be alien in origin. What does the Gizmo want...and what will it do? Sarah, Diana, Melanie and Bess each have to face this dilemma in their own ways.

"Dahlia" is a pre-Gizmo story, set early in the Netwalk Sequence. Diana Andrews hopes for a quiet romantic moment with her lover Will Landreth--but technology, intrusive parents, and non-compete agreements pose obstacles.

Netwalk The Expanded Edition by Joyce Reynolds-Ward Netwalk: The Expanded Edition introduces the concept of the Netwalk digital uploads and brings the Gizmo on stage. Melanie Landreth struggles to help her mother Diana battle against her oppressive grandmother Sarah Stephens--who has died and uploaded as a Netwalker. Can Melanie help Diana gain control of a government in shambles and find both love and a decent ski slope? Includes four short stories.

Netwalker Uprising (The Netwalk Sequence # 2) by Joyce Reynolds-Ward
In Netwalker Uprising, Melanie has to defuse the threat posed by an ex-lover who has uploaded as a Netwalker--while still preserving her company, her family and protecting her newborn child. When she learns about the true nature of the Gizmo device, she has to choose between her mother's wishes and what is best for company and family alike.

A sequel to "Dahlia," "Winter Shadows," will be up soon.

Thanks for checking my work out!

Racing beneath the city’s twin red moons, on a search for a cloaked stranger, Traveller and his team consisting of a pacifist demon, a cast out demi-god, and a telepathic female, find themselves drawn into dark alleys and guarded secrets, facing bestial street predators, techno-assassins, amphibious conmen, and a vampire acting troupe. The answers they discover may save their new home or bring the walls of the dome crumbling down around them all.

In recent years, science fiction has grown top-heavy with dystopian or post-apocalyptic novels. Maybe it’s the influence of blockbusters like The Matrix or the cult favorite Blade Runner. Maybe it even reaches back to the years of the Terminator movies. This darkness and pessimism is particularly true when sentient machines of any kind are added to the mix.

But I happen to agree with futurist Ray Kurzweil that the children of our creativity—sentient machines—will only follow the biological template of their creators. Machines will develop to be more and more like us, and we will hardly notice it happening. There will be no bloody revolution because the line between machine and human being will not exist in the way we imagine it. This is the basic philosophy that continues to underpin my own science fiction work—a view both positive and wildly dynamic.

Still, we know that evolution of any kind isn’t always a neat and clean thing, but sometimes is the stuff of great stories.

Folds of the Script, my sixth speculative fiction novel, examines what happens when machines, unable by design to process the presence of one another (what can’t work together can’t cause harm together), have a chance to upgrade with a human-like emotional and relational template. Faced with the choice to become more human, would they actually choose to go down that thorny path? That is only one of the several philosophical questions woven into this fast-moving and intellectually complex novel. Remember: thrill rides don’t mean you have to check your mind at the door.K.B. Matthew Thyer | 4 comments First the book announcement, my first Sci-Fi novelette is out in print and ebook.

The Big Red Buckle by Matthew Alan Thyer
The Big Red Buckle

It is the first in a series I'm working on set in the theme "sports in space".

Description:
For Marco Aguilar, just being at the race's starting line represents the culmination of two years of careful preparation and training. He feels a momentary pang of guilt knowing that his wife Emma has carried their family while his focus has been elsewhere. But he also knows that winning the Grand Martian Traverse is a shared decision, not just his goal.

Petrus Mandel is a novice endurance sport athlete hoping to soar alongside Aguilar to greatness. He suspects Aguilar may have a solution to traversing the gaping expanse between the distant shield volcanoes and must face his fears and follow his curiosity.

Together, these two Martian-born endurance athletes run and soar in the solar system's greatest race.

Humanity has survived environmental and atmospheric calamity and begun to move out into the stars. Sport still plays a vital role in our day-to-day affairs. The Big Red Buckle recounts an episode of a single-stage endurance race held between two shield volcanoes on a Mars that is slowly being terraformed. Participants must run and soar over 1,500 kilometers while the solar system watches.

Next up I want to invite you to take advantage of my book-for-review deal. I'm giving away a limited number of paperbacks in exchange for some reviews. Hope to hear from you soon, and I hope you enjoy my book.

Echoes (Echoes, #1) by Therin Knite

Synopsis:

Washington
District of Columbia
United Republic of Earth
2712

____

Twenty-three-year-old Adem Adamend has it rough. His name is ludicrous. His friends are few. And the only thing his “kid genius” status has gotten him at the Interdistrict Bureau of Intelligence is a boatload of extra work with no credit in sight.

Then hotshot lawyer Victor Manson is burned to death in his own back yard, and Adem finds himself using his unique skills to piece together the strangest crime he’s ever seen. Strange because the only possible suspect Adem can pin the murder on…is a mythical beast. A dragon.

Before Adem can unravel the mystery of Manson’s death, the Bureau loses jurisdiction to the secretive EDPA, an organization that investigates weird and deadly events. But Adem isn’t one for giving up, so he takes it upon himself to delve deeper into EDPA’s machinations, into the series of unfortunate events that led to Manson’s demise.

And what he finds may change the way he views the world — and himself — forever.

____

What do you do when a killer can hide behind his dreams?

What do you do when a murder weapon ceases to exist?

And how do you stop a villain who can conjure up nightmares and burn you from the Earth in the blink of an eye?

Adem Adamend is about to find out.

___

It's available on Amazon. :)

Clare O'Beara | 27 comments Hi folks,

I have had a Science fiction/ Science fantasy on release for five months, only on Amazon Kindle. Despite the Amazon product description, which I can't get them to change, this is a full-length novel.

Dining Out Around The Solar System
by Clare O'Beara

JUPITER'S BOUGHT THE DOME!
Donal, an Irish lad, and Myron, a Cockney-Jamaican mix, meet aged seventeen as book reviewers and trainee journalists. Before long they're onto the hottest stories in London.
DEATH CAUSED BY CAFFEINE
In their future, Stansted Airport has been converted to a space shuttle base and Londoners are recruited to mine the asteroids.
AHOY NEPTUNE! ESTUARY BOMBS TO BE CLEARED
While exploring the other planets, we found that they were all inhabited. Now those people are coming to Earth and looking for work. They're also opening ethnic restaurants in central London.
THE SMOKING GUN
Befriending immigrants makes Donal and Myron unpopular with some, while their investigative reporting lands them in trouble with wealthy organisations, criminals and the Home Office. Their romantic prospects are compromised. But you can't keep a good team down, especially when they report for London's Eye, and they've got every book ever digitised at their disposal....

You can change the product description yourself using author central. If you have already used it before to change the product description, you can no longer do it from the website you used to submit the book. You MUST use author central.

Philip Dodd (philipdodd) | 67 comments Those readers who like the high seriousness and complexity of modern science fiction may like to have a rest from it for a few moments and read Dawn Of An Idea, being Chapter One of my lighthearted, bird brain science fiction story, called Klubbe The Turkle and the Golden Star Coracle, on Wattpad. It is, basically, the biography of an inventor, called Klubbe, who lives on the planet, Ankor. Turkles are like their close cousins, turtles, only, unlike them, they walk on their hind legs, have yellow golden skin and back shells, the gift of language and the ability to create their own culture. I have just finished polishing and pruning my story, but I am not sure when it will be published yet. Here is the blurb I have written for its back cover:
On the planet Ankor, Klubbe the turkle is quite content to live as a hermit, until a marine mishap inspires him to be an inventor. Later, his inventions and explorations change not only his life, but that of his entire planet.

Clare O'Beara | 27 comments Thanks Ken,

I've had a message back from Amazon saying they are looking into it.
Maybe 175 pages is a default for e-books? Mine is over 800 pages so I told them this faulty description may be adversely impacting sales. That got their attention.

message 498: by [deleted user] (new)

They show the ebook version of my book at 280 pages, while the paperback has 370 (but my paperback uses a slightly larger than standard font).

Ian Martyn | 9 comments I recently released two science fiction novels:

Ancestral Dreams: The Return

Major Danjay and his captains, Agreb, and Mizon, are quelling an uprising led by the fanatic Jakan. Danjay is badly injured. Only his smartsuit, his bionanotech and the prompt action of Agreb and Mizon save his life.

Fifteen standards after Kwasang, the three are once more on Jakan’s trail. However, unknown to them, Jakan is under the control of another mythical creature, who with other members of its race, visited earth in prehistoric times. For Danjay, this will not only mean confronting man’s ancient foe but also his own ancestry.

Project Noah

At the end of the twenty-first century, planet Earth is in trouble, the population is still increasing, climate change has not been arrested, sea levels are rising and millions of people are suffering starvation and death. In London, a scientist discovers a treatment that may arrest or severely restrict the ageing.

Professor Gunther Kleim chairs a group of fifty of Europe’s top scientists, economists and sociologists tasked with modelling the future. The inescapable outcome is the breakdown of human civilisation. To give the world hope, Gunther proposes Project Noah. With the support of a multi-billionaire businessman, they aim to preserve a piece of civilisation, taking thousands, eventually hundreds of thousands of people, to the stars.

Jesikah Sundin (jesikahsundin) | 5 comments Legacy (The Biodome Chronicles #1) by Jesikah Sundin

I am excited to share that my debut science fiction novel was published this week!

Synopsis:
A sensible young nobleman, Leaf Watson, and his sister, Willow Oak, live a rustic medieval life rich in traditions and chivalry. Sealed inside an experimental biodome since infancy, they have been groomed by The Code to build a sustainable community devoid of Outsider interference.

They are unwitting pioneers on a path toward confined interplanetary homesteading.

Life within their walled garden is predictable and peaceful until the unthinkable happens. With his dying breath, Leaf and Willow’s noble father bequeaths a family secret, placing an invisible crown of power on Leaf’s head. Grief-stricken and afraid for their lives, the siblings defy their upbringing by connecting with Fillion Nichols, a punk hacker who, unbeknownst to them, is linked to their lives in shocking ways. Their encounter launches Fillion into a battle with his turbulent past as he urgently decodes the many secrets that bind them together, a necessity for each to survive.

Youth cultures clash when the high technology of the Anime Tech Movement collides with the Middle Ages in a quest for truth, unfolding a story rich in mystery, betrayal and love.

The paperback and Kindle books are currently available on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Legacy-The-Biod....

Many Thanks!
