Eli Constant (eliconstant) | 3 comments Hi all,

I'm looking for twenty people to participate in a R2R promotion for Dead Trees.

-----
Synopsis:

A scientist mommy battling beasties better be handy with a scalpel.

Elise Swanson is trying to give her daughters a decent childhood. This should be a simple task, but the invading undergrounders – subterranean humanoids that have existed since the dawn of mankind – make outdoor playtime a tad tricky.

After fleeing Georgia and surviving six months of bumbling self-sufficiency, Elise and her daughters meet Jason. He's tough and nature-savvy. Pit stop fights with beasties define the survival-road that the four companions navigate. The bloody pavement finally ends in Washington State at a government safe zone where the trekkers hope to build a stationary life.

A little rest and rehab would be nice, but Elise is quickly led down a path of research and deception where humanity's future isn't a priority. She becomes leader of a secret plan and long nights in the lab keep her busy. She strives to destroy the undergrounders and the life of an underhuman crossbreed hangs in the balance.

Haphazardly conceived and manufactured, the H2H (Humanoid-to-Human) chromosome-targeting nanotech has a small probability of success, but Elise has to believe it will work. Hour by hour, she becomes less confident and more emotionally compromised by the rapidly growing, stunning underhuman. Her maternal nature leads to a late-night escapade resulting in a platinum-haired, third daughter and a million uncertainties.

Fleeing her home, Elise had two loved ones to shelter. That number has risen. When the not-so-safe zone is invaded by beasties, she will save her family... no matter the consequences.

DEAD TREES is a 111k word, mature-reader Dystopian that weaves horror, levity, and science. Underneath the layers of storyline, a simple core exists – the limitless distance a mother will go to protect her children, both physically and mentally.

----
Those requesting to participate- please email me directly at [email protected] or send a signup request on my website www.eliconstant.com (go to the MORE tab and UPCOMING EVENTS. Here you will find the R2R signup)

In exchange for a .mobi or PDF copy of Dead Trees, participating readers will commit to read the book in a timely manner (1-2 weeks) and post honest reviews on both Goodreads and Amazon. Participating readers will also acknowledge in writing that the provided copy of the book will not be shared or distributed to others.

Before signing-up, please understand that Dead Trees does have some violence, mild language, and is more along the lines of dystopian Dark SciFi. It also features a strong female lead with a secondary MC male. You can read a sample on Amazon.com before deciding to participate. I'm currently writing the sequel, and anyone who enjoys the book can find sequel updates on my website.

Thanks!
Eli Constant

In the wake of the global pandemic known as the "little dormouse," the line between the Safe Zone and the Quarantine Zone divides New York City. The shores and waters of the East River are the "DMQZ," the uninhabited area that separates uninfected Manhattan from the slowly dying borough of Brooklyn.

Jacob Hale is a Manhattan police officer rising in the ranks of the Safe Zone military government until a bank heist gone wrong lands him on suspension and under suspicion. On a quest to clear his good name, Hale finds himself drawn into a web of conspiracy, terrorism, and revolt - and into the orbit of a mysterious woman who may be the key to it all.

Timothy Holloway | 6 comments "PERIL" by Timothy J. Holloway

I'm very excited to announce that I'm shopping my first novel around to various production companies and literary agencies. I have received some very good feedback! It has been a long time dream of mine to make this project into a film and it appears that my efforts may be FINALLY bearing fruit. It's premature for me to release too many details, but suffice-it-to-say the project may have reached the right hands. Thus, I'm asking everyone who loves sci-fi to please get a copy of the novel "PERIL" here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008ZTD6UY

I'm offering it FREE for 3 days Saturday, April 20th, Sunday, April 21st, and Monday, April 22nd. The more people who get, read, and give it a fair review on Amazon will help its ranking. Not to mention it will show that there's a public interest in the project. If you ever had a dream and needed help in reaching it you know how important this is. Please give this sci-fi book a chance by getting it, reviewing it, and reviewing it on Amazon.

Also, here are the PERIL UNIVERSE and PERIL Forum website links to learn more about the film project:

Except for one.

Alex thought that he was all that was left.

He was wrong.

John Jr. (arievlex) | 30 comments Hi all,

I have recently released my debut sci-fi novella THE PLAN OF ARIEVLEX. Here is the description:

There is a reason for reality. That reason is not as stable as we might imagine. The ends of the infinite, both negative and positive infinity, are not equal, thus, the paradox resolves by the two ends of the infinite being separated by reality as a solution. However, there are numerous solutions, and sometimes the solutions collide, causing the paradox to return, wreaking havoc on the universes that have formed within the realities.

There was an explosion, which resulted from a collision between two solutions of the ends of the infinite, two realities. The explosion was so powerful that it expanded outside its universe. It formed a spherical sheet of force so stupendous that it smashed trillions upon trillions of universes. There was little hope of surviving its massive power. It was called the Ultravast Wave or the Super Universe.

The universe of Zermorifth, home to the Jhyytaforian Empire, was one of the most powerful civilizations in all reality. Arievlex was among them. He devised a plan to save his universe from the Super Universe, which involved utilizing two other universes, one of which the planet Earth resides, and the other a small universe with only one star in it. The goal of stopping the Ultravast Wave from destroying his universe was as worthy an ambition as any civilization had ever aspired to in all of reality. Thus, the saga continues, the fate of fate residing in the Plan of Arievlex. His hope is all that is left for us.

If this sounds like what you are into then check out my website.

www.arievlex.com

Also, the book is on http://www.amazon.com/The-Plan-of-Ari...

Enjoy!

I'm also a first time author. My book Five's Fate Five's Fate by Connor Alexander is an ensemble adventure sci-fi in the vein of The Stand or Lost (the TV show). It's a fun, quick, pulpy read with some adult themes and situations.

Kevin (khardman) | 26 comments Hello everyone,

I currently have two books out, the first being "Sensation: A Superhero Novel":

Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Sensation-Super...

Description:

Like millions of other kids, Jim grew up wanting to be a superhero. Unlike most of his contemporaries, however, Jim actually had the goods: a plethora of super powers that would have been the envy of any meta on the planet. But when his tryout with the Alpha League - the world's premiere group of supers - goes disastrously wrong, Jim basically becomes an outcast.

Two years later, Jim is still bitter about what happened to him. However, he soon finds himself the centerpiece in an odd turn of events that gives him a second chance at his dream. But nothing is as easy as it sounds, as Jim soon discovers. Among other things, he’s made an enemy of a prospective super teammate, he’s being stalked by an unknown pursuer, and a shadowy cabal bent on world domination has identified him as the only obstacle to their plans.

It’s a lot for one super to handle, even with a smorgasbord of abilities. But if saving the world were easy, everyone would do it…
___________________________________________________________________

My other book is "Warden (Book 1: Wendigo Fever)":

Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/Warden-Book-Wen...

Description:

Part lawman, part tracker and part magician, the Wardens are monster-hunters - tasked with protecting the people from the various, nightmarish creatures that have invaded the world of men. However, despite being descended from a long line of Wardens, 16-year-old Errol Magnus believes it to be the absolute worst job on the planet: How could a single occupation simultaneously be the most boring, abominably stupid and extraordinarily dangerous profession imaginable?

But when his older brother Tom - the current Warden for their region - goes missing, Errol has no choice but to enter the Badlands, where monsters abide in mind-boggling numbers, to find him. During his search, Errol crosses paths with - and finds himself stalked by - the legendary Wendigo, a monster with preternatural strength and speed, as well as enhanced senses of sight, smell and hearing…and an insatiable hunger for human flesh.

Now Errol must do the impossible and not only escape from the monster (something no one has ever done before), but also avoid the unearthly legacy it leaves on all its victims - a terrifying curse known as Wendigo Fever.

Citizen

Cold. Fear.

Unfeeling eyes stare at Lend as he’s forced up against a metal contraption. A smile curls on the face of a blue-skinned, bat-winged creature that towers above him. Blue electricity is pressed crudely to his face and a voice slithers from the throat of the other worldly being, “There’s nowhere to run, human.”

Lend, wrenched away from his home in the wild, loses everything in one eternal moment. Not only have these creatures, who call themselves Citizens, stolen his world, now they’re after his freedom. Forced into the back of a speedcar, the aliens take him to a warehouse. Ill fed, terrified humans huddle in the darkness waiting to be purchased by a Citizen. Losing all identity except the name “human,” Lend fights to regain the freedom he and his race have lost.

Purchased by the daughter of the most powerful Citizen on the planet, Lend finds his world churning. The female Citizen shows him a new side of the alien race that he believed was incapable of love or trust. Jealousy rages in her relationship with her future mate, and Lend runs from the killer Inamorato. With the threat of being burned alive, Lend collides straight into a force beyond his control. Does he have what it takes to become a savior or will he be enslaved at the hands of the powerful beings who corrupted our world?

Robert Tell | 2 comments "Thirsty Planet," is a Montaigne Medal Award Finalist for thought provoking writing. Now, for the first time, the ebook edition is available FREE as my way of introducing the reader to all my work featured at the following Goodreads page:

http://www.goodreads.com/search?utf8=...

It's the year 2121 CE and the veneer of civilization is crumbling. When the wife of physicist, Moss Leder, is brutally murdered during the apparent theft of the couple's drinking water, Leder vows to journey to the previous century where he hopes to alter the flow of events about climate that led to his world's personal and ecological tragedies.

Join Moss Leder and Zoe Reuel as they find love and common purpose in a world that's lost its future. Stay with them as they battle powerful enemies determined to frustrate their scheme to save their "Thirsty Planet." If you enjoy political fiction thrillers, you won't want to miss this fast moving multi-century whodunnit. It's a novel about broken politics with theological overtones.

The novel, "Thirsty Planet" qualifies as science fiction because it features time travel as a key device in the plot. I am not a scientist but I based the "time science" in the book on the work of physicist, Paul Davies, and the "climate science" on the research of the UN and other creditable organizations. However, the book is also a work of political and religious literary fiction. Check it out at Goodreads or your favorite ebook retailer.

David Kimmel (dakimmel) New poster here trying to peddle his book. Rockin' Across the Galaxy, is a light-hearted scifi adventure that will entertain, excite and maybe even provide a chuckle or two.

The premise is relatively simple: Gsefx (pronounced "Zef") is stuck in traffic on his way to work on Laxor and is going to be late...again. Henry is a misunderstood artist (on Earth) at the end of his rope. Two different beings from opposite sides of the galaxy. What could these two possibly have in common. (Hint: it could have something to do with an "elek trik git-arr.") Here's a short excerpt:

=======
Meaning "primitive" in Galactine Standard, albalan was defined by a stringed instrument known as an "elek trik gitt-arr," by the natives who played it. The git-arr was usually accompanied by a variety of other instruments just as primitive. All were played at exceptionally loud levels and what vocals there were often resembled primal screaming rather than true singing.

Like many other young galactic professionals, Gsefx loved it.

Dan Harris (danharris) | 3 comments Hi folks. The first two books in my series The Unity Sequence are out now. I'd love to hear from any readers who've picked up a copy of either book!

Ascension Point by Dan Harris
Titan. A genetically engineered warrior for whom going home means a death sentence…
Commonwealth. A powerful politician chasing a legend from her family’s past…
Seryn. A young girl seeking adventure and hiding more power than even she knows…
Collective. A synthetically augmented scientist whose singular nature makes him an exile…

Representatives from each of humanity’s four feuding factions, each offered the chance to see the legendary Book of Ascension—an ancient artefact rumoured to hold the key to immortality. The four form an uneasy alliance before discovering they have been misled: Before they can see the Book, they must find a mythical deity, protect the galaxy from an ancient evil—and save humanity’s future.

http://dan-harris.net/ascension-point/

Venus Rising by Dan Harris
A year has passed since the events of ASCENSION POINT, and the galaxy shifts uncomfortably as the opposing forces of progress and tradition threaten the new and fragile peace. Titan society teeters on the brink of civil war, the Commonwealth bristles with hostility towards the returning Seryn, while the Collective remains silent in the spaces between the stars, watching. And waiting.

Against this backdrop of turmoil and unrest, the Peacetrooper brother of Commonwealth Senator Neela Kane has gone missing. Intelligence places him on Karak, an Independent desert world, and Operative Dante Zo is dispatched to bring him home—or confirm his demise. Quinn, employee of the shadowy Seryn Agency, is also headed to Karak, where rumours abound of a fierce and sudden tribal war centred on a mysterious woman with uncanny power: Venus, the Seryn’s most dangerous rogue agent.

Meanwhile, on Karak itself, other forces bring their pieces into play. Tasha, a young but mercurial assassin, is unleashed to kill the foreign witch and bring peace back to her home. But with a renegade Titan mercenary at her side, Venus will let nothing stand in the way of her plan—and the conquest of Karak is just the beginning. With a world in the firing line, and the fate of the entire galaxy at stake, only one question remains:

In the name of duty, is there anything that can’t be sacrificed?

Eric Burney | 2 comments Hello everyone, I'm new to Goodreads and wanted to share my recently published novel, The Revelation Chronicles with you.

This novel did exceptionally well on amazon after a 3-day free promotion, logging over 1,000 downloads.

Here's the synopsis:

What if everything you thought you knew about your life was a carefully crafted lie?

Charlie Reese is an underachieving college student with no sense of direction or purpose in life. When his best friend Freddy convinces him to attend a school fundraiser he reluctantly agrees and volunteers to be hypnotized by a famed illusionist named The Great Standeval. But, during the hypnosis, things go horribly wrong and Standeval mysteriously disappears.

Later, Charlie begins to suspect that something isn’t right. During the hypnotism he was made to believe he was an alien. Once he begins to have disturbing visions and unimaginable things start to happen, he begins to wonder if it could really be true. Could he really be an alien from a distant planet that was destroyed years ago? Things take an unexpected turn as Charlie and his close friends are kidnapped and a secret is revealed that will change the course of human history.

Charlie has his doubts however, and embarks on a roller coaster ride of emotions while he struggles with the idea that so much could rest on his young shoulders. To make matters worse, he struggles with his feelings for his childhood crush Allison along with an uncontrollable desire for the irresistible Kara, a girl with whom he shares a unique bond.

With the help of new friends like Nick, an arrogant and cocky jock, and Michael, the quiet, reserved one with a penchant for fire, he will learn to stand up and fight for the things he believes in and the people he holds dear. Danger lurks around every corner. It will take the combined efforts of them all to prevent the end of the human race and the fall of planet Earth.

Andy Elliott | 33 comments Hi everybody.

My novel, The Remarkables has sci-fi themes that become deeper as the story progresses.

The Remarkables by A.D. Elliott

Here's the blurb:

Owen Johnson’s day was progressing just as it did for most other teenagers. By lunchtime he had climbed a tall building using abilities usually reserved for superheroes; he’d flirted with the girl he had secretly adored for years; he’d come home to find his dad had been kidnapped and a mysterious stranger standing in his living room; and finally he’d been rescued by the elderly woman from next door who had suddenly revealed that she had the power to launch people through the air.

"The Remarkables" introduces Owen Johnson to the world of a group of seemingly ageless war heroes, each possessing unique gifts that had been used to fight evil. Now they must help Owen find his dad, and uncover a new threat to our way of life. Along their journey Owen slowly starts to learn the secrets of his past, and uncovers surprising truths about himself and those that he thought he knew; some of which he is glad to learn, some he may wish that he had not.

John Godier (jmgodier) | 5 comments Hello Everyone. I'm John Michael Godier and I'm a new goodreads author. I have an e-book available on Amazon entitled 'The Salvagers' and I'm currently going through the trial by fire of promoting and trying to get people to try the book. Please have band aids, gauze and perhaps some liquor around just in case I start to look a little rough from the process in the coming months. It seems that writing the book really is the easy part.

My book is simple, fun, uncomplicated and fast-paced classic sci fi with a positivist tone. I simply started out with the philosophy that I wanted to write about a world I would want to live in as opposed to one I would not. I use strong characters, uncomplicated prose, and extrapolation of technology over the next four centuries to create that world.

Set four centuries in the future, salvager Captain Camden D. Hunter and his crew find the richest shipwreck ever lost in space: the mining vessel Cape Hatteras and the fabulous wealth it contains.

Lost 200 years before under mysterious and unknown circumstances, the Cape Hatteras is the most famous shipwreck in history. If anyone finds out that Cam's found it, he'll have every claim jumper in the solar system wanting a cut.

But that’s the least of his worries, though he doesn't know it. The Cape Hatteras was once a government ship and they want it back. Unbeknownst to Cam and his crew, within that ship lies a dark national secret that could threaten Earth, the solar system, and even the whole of the universe itself.

If you want to give it a try, here it is:

P.S. for everyone else, the second book in my Lunar Free State series is on its way into the distribution channels. It's entitled Someday the Stars and should be available on Amazon, B&N, etc. in print formats (hardcover & soft) within a week or so. The ebook versions may take another couple of weeks; but they should be available soon as well.

Once it shows up on the bookstore sites, I'll link it into my profile. I'll also be running a Goodreads giveaway on it, as soon as the print copies I've ordered arrive.

Terence Park (archie_tp) | 22 comments A Guide to First Contact

Hi

A Guide to First Contact is my first novel and I would be delighted for any feed back. The title is a play on the disaster that unfolds following first contact with aliens. I've read a *lot* of SF and Fantasy; I use one or two literary tricks to bend the rules.

It’s 2062. Most of the West has collapsed; all that remains of the former United States is the Petit États, centered over New England. Outside of there, civilization survives only in enclaves. A new and mysterious power controls what's left of the world - the mandat culturel. It came into being when the Earth was first contacted by aliens and it controls access to advanced technology.
First contact causes chaos, as it would, but then an epidemic sweeps the planet. No-one knows where it originates from; the aliens blame human authorities and the planet is quarantined. Its symptoms are an incurable, degenerative illness which turns victims into savage, sub-human brutes.
Wahchinksapa, a former intelligence officer, heads up a confederation of Sioux peoples. He jockeys to keep his people from the control of the mandat culturel.
Into this mix comes Triste. He’s a bounty hunter and has all the latest ordnance. His contracts take him to the former urban areas and give him leeway to do pretty much as he wants. When the cities were abandoned a lot of loot was left behind....

Read it and discover:
...a Star Being set to watch over our out-of-the-way planet: a vast and powerful entity with an agenda.
...two intelligence agents; one sexy and ruthless, the other a bit of a bumbler; who get caught up in intrigues that culminate in the collapse of Western civilization.
...a gang, whose influence stretches far beyond their base in the ruins of New York, yet they have an uneasy coexistence with a clandestine alien facility in the heart of Manhattan.

USP: includes a Story Arc section (with relevant links) so readers can track main character appearances and follow particular story lines. Can be read on different levels. Multiple plots. Literary references. Explicit content.

Feedback welcome.

I've received a copy-edit proposal which I can't turn down. The copy-editing will be done by Stephen Cashmore. He is a professional proof-reader and copy-editor and is a member of a number of relevant bodies including the Society for Editors and Proofreaders, the Glasgow Editor's Network, and the Glasgow SF Writers Circle.

I'm convinced that this will make it a better book and while this is underway, I plan to remove the book from my author page. It will take about a month.

Rusty Williamson (rustywriter) | 4 comments Hi,
Just joined. Just self published the first of a four book space opera series on Amazon (Kindle/paperback). Took 8 years to write. I also created an animated book trailer for it. So far I've only sold 10 copies, have four 5-star reader reviews and an awesome Kirkus review. I've read GR documentation for 2 days but still haven't figured out a good way to let sci-fi readers know of its existence. Is there a group where it's expectable to post info about your book?

Thanks,
Rusty

Peter (peterlean) | 50 comments Hallo GoodReads friends,
I have just published my collection of short stories, 'Photograph. A Journey Through Space, Time, and More'
http://www.amazon.com/Photographs-Jou...

The book includes some of the standalone stories some of you already know, and new ones. And, although many of them are time travel related, there is other stuff :) including not 'real' stories, but short vignettes related to real episodes.

I would be happy, as always, to send a free copy to all of my GR friends, just send me a private msg and your email address, I will send you the complete mobi or epub file, with the cover. In fact, at the moment, I did not include this book in the KDP select program and I do not have possibility to put it as a giveaway.
In exchange, a review would be very appreciated!

Alexes | 122 comments 55 five-star Amazon reviews. 4.6 overall rating. Seats on two Top 100 lists: Dystopian Science Fiction and Fantasy Coming of Age. I can't think of a better way to thank readers than with a bit of a sale, so from June 1 to June 7, Khe will be $.99 in the US and have significantly reduced pricing everywhere else that Amazon reaches.

Stuart Fox | 1 comments http://www.amazon.com/dp/1489587411

Becoming Green, by Stuart Fox. Available in paperback on Amazon.com and as a Kindle e-book on the Kindle/iPad.

The fate of mankind takes a surprising turn when a new disease appears in a small mountain community. The disease turns its victims green, either killing them or transforming them into an astonishing new human species. Suspecting biological terrorism, Major “Di” Johnson and her medical team quarantine that community and the nearby resort towns.

The imminent arrival of summer tourists would spread the disease worldwide and doom the human species, one way or another. Major Johnson recruits David Tollner, a lustful but lost vacationing scientist. Their romance blossoms as they race to discover how to stem the strangest and most dangerous disease in history. This story is surprisingly plausible, based on current biomedical science and technology and the recent creation of synthetic cells.

I have a Ph.D. in medical physiology and have authored many college textbooks, but this is my first novel. If scientists could transform people so that they became a new species, would this benefit them or cause them to suffer? What would become of them? How would we react to them? We may have to face questions like this sooner than we realize.

Charles Has anyone had experience serializing their books? I did this on my blog with the first three parts of my SF novel E: Omnibus Edition and got, I think, about 200 regular readers, but it didn't translate at all to sales.
