*Ash* (ashdex) | 56 comments You should watch the movies "Dolls"... that one is creepy! I think its an early 80s horror movie. Scared me half to death when I watched it as a child. Now I watch it and think its silly.

Chelly (teamderek13) | 62 comments Lisarenee wrote: "Welcome Ash, Sorry your hubby is overseas.

Chelsea did you watch Chuckie or whatever that creepy doll movie's name was? I think I gave up all my dolls after seeing that movie. :) Oh, and if you d..."

lol thanks for the tip. As it is I have not seen it- i can't watch any scary movie without having a spaz attack- but adding a doll into the equation would definately require hospitalization :}

message 253: by *Ash* (new)

*Ash* (ashdex) | 56 comments haha.... i'm literally LOL'ing. :-)

message 254: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments I wanted to read everyone's 10 before I posted mine but I think I'll go ahead and post it. Then read y'all's.

#1: I love to watch scary movies, but can't watch them by myself....especially at night
#2: Although I look the "goody-two shoes" type I have many hidden tattos, including one that says "Tramp"
#3: I have Earth-based beliefs
#4: I am terrified of spiders, and use to have a trantula...when she came out from under her log I refused to feed her or give her water. She had to stay inside if she wanted anything! My grandma ended up giving her water for me a few times before I gave her to my uncle.
#5: I have a short attention span when listening to someone talk. Therefore I cannot talk on the phone if you really want me to know what you are talking about. Text me, e-mail me....just please don't call. I have the longest attention span when it comes to reading.
#6: I have a hard time picking a "favorite". If you see my previous post in "in a nutshell" I list multiple things. With books it depends on the genre, adult/ya. Music depends on the genre...then the decade..
#7: I am a closet smoker....although I think my grandma knows...just isn't saying anything
#8: I have no regrets in life.....and boy have I made some bad decisions at times! :/
#9: I didn't like school when I was in school....still don't like school now that my kids are in school. Just not a morning person....Maybe if they started around 9 and still got out are 3-3:30 I'd be good to go!
#10: I am a very quiet person offline. And sometimes online as well!

message 255: by *Ash* (new)

*Ash* (ashdex) | 56 comments HI Jennifer, I'm loving your 10 random things. In Australia where I'm from school does start at 9 and end at 3:30.

message 256: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments I am jealous! hehe. The kids start school at 8:05 and go until 3:15. I refuse to get up before 7am except on the days I help my ex run his paper route (like tonight - I have to be up in 2.5 hours). No matter how early I go to sleep I am not ready for 7am!

message 257: by *Ash* (new)

*Ash* (ashdex) | 56 comments 8:05... yuck! I agree on getting up before 7am... its just not right!

I have this theory that hardcore night people are always, always night people. We could be forced to get up at 6:00 am every day for 20 years, and we'd still hate it, lol. Every time in my life my schedule has freed up so that I don't have to get up in the morning, I've gravitated right back to going to bed at 2 am or later.

message 259: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Reeves (barefootdokusha) | 0 comments Night time is probably my favorite time. The kids are asleep. I can relax and do things at my own pace....instead of the kids. In a way I'm ready for the teenage years. We'll be on the same schedual. My son likes to stay up late (he's almost 8). So on the weekends he'll be in his bed watching tv giving me a play-by-play on whatever show he happens to be watching. A lot of the times it's Man Vs Wild or some Animal Planet/Discovery/National Geographic thing.

I completely agree. Even though I have to be up at 6:30 Mon-Fri and 7:30 on Saturdays, I still go to bed between 12 and 1 nearly every night... 11 o'clock is early :}

message 261: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I never posted here, so here goes:

1. I'm an avid video game player, although I don't necessarily have the latest and greatest since everything is so expensive.
2. I love love love conventions of all kinds. Which leads to...

5. I currently work in security and am hating every minute of it.
6. In school I got a degree for something I don't want to do anymore. Yay poli sci! =P

8. I've always always always wanted to go to Australia. Someday it will happen.
9. My favorite book genre is dystopian. They're all about questioning society and I'm a big fan of questioning anything and everything before following.
10. I'm hungry for knowledge. I want to read every book, watch every movie, play every game, just do everything that I can, yet there's never enough time to fit it all in.

message 262: by Sashana (new)

Sashana #6: I don't know 100% what to major in either. Very scary thought.
#7: I LOVE Seattle. I've never been there but for some reason I love it nonetheless. It just seems like a cool city. Artsy, long, and lively. I would love to live there.

message 263: by Susan (last edited Feb 13, 2011 01:45PM) (new)

Susan Roebuck (sueroe) | 25 comments Jessica - welcome. You're snarky? I don't believe it. I know what you mean about never enough time.

Now me:
1. I hate injustice and corruption. Real bugbears.
2. If anyone's being bullied, I'll jump right in (and probably get hurt myself).
3. I'm a writer first and second a teacher.
4. I've always enjoyed weird books (Ghormenghast)and mustic (Arcade Fire). Can you classify them as weird?
5. I'm a Brit but I live in Portugal even though I hate hot weather.
6. I think I speak Portuguese like a native but everybody disagrees :-(
7. People here ALWAYS know I'm a Brit. Why is that?
8. I love cats because they're independent and inquisitive.
9. Anything about World War II reduces me to tears and I don't know why.
10. I'd love to live in the States. I too love Oregon. Also Newport Rhode Island. But really I'd just adore living in New York, or maybe in the Catskills.

message 264: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I wouldn't suspect you to be British if you hadn't mentioned it, Susan. Then again, I think the word 'bugbears' would have been my first clue :D

message 265: by *Ash* (new)

*Ash* (ashdex) | 56 comments Hi Susan... I totally agree on your #9. I'm not entirely sure why it gets me all teary eyed either. Although sometimes I do get angry at it! That is kinda weird right?!

message 266: by Susan (new)

Susan Roebuck (sueroe) | 25 comments Don't you say bugbears in the US? LOL.

It's weird Ash - I certainly didn't live at that time but there's something about it... I can read about other wars, but not that one. I could never ever see the Schindler's list movie either.

message 267: by *Ash* (new)

*Ash* (ashdex) | 56 comments Susan - Schindler's List was heartbreaking... it was so sad. I had to watch it when I was in High School.

Not where I live. What exactly is a bugbear? (Funny word by the way, I have to smile every time I think of it)

message 269: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 380 comments I'm going to try to make these different from the 5 things you may want to know about me.

1.I want to one day be able to do really awesome yoga poses.
2.I want to be a book editor and then maybe an author.
3.I can not sleep with any lights on or the television on especially if the volume is super low because then all my ears want to do is listen to it.
4.I am obsessed with Hello Kitty.
5.My favorite color is pink.
6.Since I mentioned the last two, I am the definition of a girly girl but I am also a huge nerd.
7.I love Buffy the Vampire Slayer and I own all the seasons.
8.I am on the hunt to find Jamie Fraser (from the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon in case you didn't know).
9.I have been engaged for two years and I don't know how my fiancee deals with my obsession with books.
10.Finally, I have a puppy named Lola who is my world and I used to make fun of people who obsessed about their dogs until I became one of them.

message 270: by Sans (new)

Sans Buffy is awesome.

message 271: by Lisarenee (last edited Mar 01, 2011 04:55PM) (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments Sarah, I know you've been in the group a while. Nice to know a little but more about you.

I have the same problem with sleeping with lights and television on, which is bad because my hubby likes to go to sleep with them on.

message 272: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) | 380 comments Lisarenee, my fiancee is the exact same way and it annoys the crap outta me because I feel like I'm nagging him when I tell him to turn it off!

I know I don't know why but I don't usually do the whole introduction thing but this seemed like fun. :)

message 273: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I feel for you. You may want to try investing in TV and light switch timers. That way after a set period of time they turn off. It's kind of a compromise, and at least you know there will be some end to the madness.

message 274: by Abby (new)

Abby I'm a new member here. I'm going to take a shot at this.

1. I absolutley love anime and manga! I'm a total Otaku!
2. I am in love with the Victorian Era, although I don't know why
3. My bookshelves appear to belong to multiple people because of the selction of books and manga on them - everything from young children's series (Pokemon, W.I.T.C.H., Artemis Fowl) to adult series (Southern Vampire Mysteries/True Blood, Lolita, Lord of the Rings, Millennium Triology)
4. My name isn't actually Abby, though I really wish it was
5. My dream is to be an author
6. I'm still terrified of the dark
7. I'm a Gothic Lolita (and no, Lolita does not have anything to do with Vladimir Nabokov's novel)
8. I have the appearance of a child - many people assume that I'm only just out of primary school
9. I would love to go to Japan one day!
10. I love Cosplaying!!

and 11. I have a cat (Leish), and two dogs (Lucky and Frodo, named after Frodo Baggins)

message 275: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 7659 comments I absolutely love the name Frodo for your dog. That is one of the signs of a real serious book lover - naming a pet after a book character.:) Welcome.

We actually named him Frodo because he was too cute to be called Gollum

message 278: by [deleted user] (new)

10 Random Things...
1. Contrary to what people think, I'm actually quite a nerd. Pretty hard to believe since I'm such a slacker.
2. Even though I exercise alot, I'm a very lazy person. I'd rather sit on the couch and scream for hours at my brother to come downstairs so he can give me the remote, instead of getting up and walking to the coffee table to get it myself. I will also lie awake in bed for three hours with my laptop instead of getting my lazy butt up.
3. I loooooove to analyze people. And observe them. It's not stalking, I don't have time for that one. But I can catch a person in a lie easily, and have a lot of fun decoding their personality. Heh.
4. I'm certifiably crazy. There's a mental institution that has a padded cell with my name written on it, somewhere out there.
5. I love to travel. Everywhere and anywhere.
6. I can't sleep in my bed without inspecting it for bugs, and shutting my closet, bathroom and bedroom door. And there has to be no light, not even from my alarm clock. Or any weird noises like crickets or howling animals. Which sucks because I like to leave my windows open all night even when its raining.
7. I have a very, very, very, very, very big family. My parents could give John and Kate a run for their money.
8. I secretly got a tattoo of a Scarlet Lotus between my shoulder blades, as a sign of rebellion. A big fail, because no one found out.
9. I'm obsessed with Peter Facinelli. Not because of Twilight, although he looks hot there too, but because of Fastlane and Nurse Jackie and SuperNova. One time, I saw him at a restaurant with some other guy, and became a total fan girl. I had him sign my arm, my shirt, my heels, my backpack and then asked him if I could have his shirt. He said no. True story.
10. I love to spar on a regular basis. Which translates into me loving to kick other people's butts.

Sooo...that's that.

message 279: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Facinelli is gorgeous!

8. I secretly got a tattoo of a Scarlet Lotus between my shoulder blades, as a sign of rebellion. A big fail, because no one found out.

LMAO!

message 280: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I like analyzing people too. I'm afraid that I might come off as creepy sometimes though lol. I can't help it, I just like staring.

I want to travel but haven't been many places yet. Oh well, I have time on my side.

message 281: by [deleted user] (new)

lol, yeah I got especially frustrated after a while when I basically announced to the family that I got a tattoo. My dad just shrugged and my mom shook her head, and we continued our dinner. So much for being a rebel.
I try not to tell people I'm analyzing them. I just internalize and snicker.
*snickers*

message 282: by Sashana (last edited May 27, 2011 03:25PM) (new)

Sashana I'm sure your tattoo was tame compared to the things that your brothers have done. They were probably like "A tattoo? Hallelujah!"

message 283: by [deleted user] (new)

Very tame, compared to...bringing rats into the house as pets and playing Chicken. They were surprised a little, but then tried to convince me to get get one of a clover on my wrist. I respectfully declined and went back to being a parental suck up.

message 284: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kielianne) | 940 comments Hmm, 10 things... let's see

1) My greatest fear is that I will get crushed between library compact shelving because someone started cranking them while I was inside an aisle...

2) I have a collection of close to 300 Cabbage Patch Kids and their accessories. Most of which are in their original outfits and/or packaging....

3) I often find myself talking to myself in Spanish even though it's my third-language and I am far from fluent in it (at least I seem to understand myself)...

4) The last time I had a boyfriend I was in grade 1 (I'm now 23) I dumped him after he ate my birthday party invitation, envelope and all. (yes he was human)

5) My favourite actress is Dame Judi Dench, and I own the majority of the movies/films she was ever in on DVD or VHS, along with books, CDs, etc.

6) I have completed 20 years of schooling consecutively and am still about to continue with another one next year (which includes preschool-1yr, kindergarten-2yrs, elementary 8-yrs, high school 4-yrs, 2 bachelor degrees-5yrs) some think I'm destined to be a perpetual student...

7) I'm an anglophile so basically I love everything British/English and I mean EVERYTHING... except Earl Grey Tea...

8) I hope to someday make my own V-logs (video diary/blogs) instead of spending so much time watching others on YouTube (iJustine, Tardistacular, eatyourkimchi, etc.)

9) Favourite tv show is definitely Doctor Who, I'm addicted to it. I definitely miss David Tennant as the Doctor though. I've watched every episode since it came back in 2005 (many more than once), and several of the old series too. This leads to my collecting of books, figurines, dvds, and really any other memorabilia in general.

10) I can't sleep in my bedroom without the door shut. This used to be because my cat would come in otherwise and take over my bed. She had claws and liked to use them so it'd force me out of my bed to get someone to remove the cat. (I wasn't a cat-lover) We haven't had our cat since I was eight but I still need the door closed...

message 285: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinalawhead) @Kirsten - your number 4 made me crack up! you're awesome :)

message 286: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Welcome to the group once again Kirsten. You definitely had some interesting things to share. I can't sleep in my bedroom without the door shut either. Not because of a cat though, it's just a fear.

Yeeeeessssss, another Whovian! I have a die-cast TARDIS on my desk at work and my license place says "9TARDIS". ^o^

I adore David Tennant and miss him too, but I've been super impressed with Matt Smith so far. I think a lot of that has to do with Moffat leading the show now. What did you think of the mid-season finale last week?

message 289: by Rachel (last edited Jun 16, 2011 08:04PM) (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments Gayle-
Awww. That is so cool and sweet that your family has such long and amazing marriages. I wish my family could say the same. It gets everyone stressed out and defensive whenever someone new is introduced into the family. It's not even worth keeping in touch with anyone any more. It's all one big gossip fest. Lol. I hope my boyfriend and I will be together for a long time. We are working towards year 6 come November. :)

Two other things on your list I wish for-- the patience to learn crochet, weaving, etc. The other would be being able to play instruments. I've tried and I just can't do it. No musical ear and not enough patience!

Congrats to your daughter!

message 290: by Gayle (new)

Gayle (gretarahikkainen) | 125 comments Thanks Rachel.

message 292: by Marla (new)

Marla Schwartz (marlalynns) Something completely random (I am loaded with absolutely useless information).

Does anyone here know how the huddle (in football) was invented?

I will post the answer (the useless info-lol) after people answer.

message 293: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I don't know how the huddle was invented. Ermmmm wasn't it invented at the same time the game was created?

message 294: by Sans (new)

Sans Is the huddle related to the scrum in rugby?

message 295: by Ema (new)

Ema I'm so random, I don't even know where to begin.

1. The ratio of the books I've read compared to the books I own is about 1:5. I'm working on it.

2. During finals last year, I went six days without brushing my hair. Untangling it was one of the most painful experiences in my life.

3. I had very, very long hair that fell down past my hips. I still don't know why I cut it.

4. My favorite color is aquamarine, but I don't own a single thing that color.

5. I hate window shopping. But I love shopping.

6. I have a ridiculously unhealthy diet. I try, I really do, to eat right. But the cheesecake just...calls to me. In my defense, I'll still choose an apple over ice cream.

7. I own enough lotions to last me a lifetime. I can't walk out of VS or B&BW without getting one. It's really quite sad.

8. I try and act a lot smarter than I really am around my teachers. I usually fail miserably.

9. My favorite subject is math, but it's my least favorite class in school. My least favorite subject is history, but it's my favorite class. I find English the easiest subject ever, but it's my hardest class. I live a life of irony.

10. I once attempted to play tennis. It didn't work out.
