1. In order to sleep it has to be silent, pitch black, and I must have a blanket on me (no matter how dang hot it is)

Welcome Sharyn! Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors, too. I just recently read Terrier and absolutely loved it! I honestly can't say which one of her books is my favorite.

9.) I sleep with tons of blankets and pillows on my bed. It helps to calm me whenever my nighttime phobia gets too extreme.

I'm pretty new here, so I thought I'd join in on this one. :-)
1) I am an introvert by nature, but play an extrovert so often on a daily basis that my boss and co-workers refer to me as "outgoing". I guess I have them fooled!
2) I'm originally from Michigan (born and raised) but moved to Connecticut about 6.5 years ago. This is now my home, despite my family remaining in Michigan.
3) I have loved reading my entire life. So much so that I got grounded from books, and my mother was exasperated that I needed to pack a bag full of books to go on vacation. Thank goodness e-books were invented!
4) I tried going to an in-person Meetup book club, but a bunch of potentially awkward people all together made it just TOO awkward. Online has always been my relationship building option of choice.
5) I always thought I was a dog person, but I rescued my cat from the Humane Society in December. I love him to itty bitty bits and spoil him rotten.
6) If I won the lottery, I think I'd love to work part-time at a dusty old bookstore. With a cat, of course.
7) My family is the new American "normal". Divorced parents, step-siblings on both sides, and my father and step-mother actually adopted my step-nephew as a baby.
8) I'm a Pisces (water sign), but cannot swim.
9) My best friend and I mutually Facebook stalked each other throughout three years in college, but didn't officially meet and become friends until I tripped over a rock in India and she picked me up and dusted me off.
10) If I didn't have a professional "career", I would absolutely pierce all the way around my earlobes and have crazy colored hair and tattoos.

Random things, huh?

1. I'm often hungry for things I can't digest (example: pizza!)

I had a hard time choosing only ten things about me. I managed to combine them together somehow, so... Here they come!

1. I mentioned this already. I can't choose if all of the options sound good, including any favorites e.g. colors, books..
2. I love the nature! Sometimes I go to the forest just to find sth new or then to see how the familiar places are doing. I like animals too. (And again I can't choose which are my faves)
3. I read quite much. It always depends on who I am talking with. If it's my friend, I'm normally the one who reads a lot. But compared to others on GR, I don't think I read a lot. The nearest book to me right now is actually my book for psychology. I should be studying for exams but here I am. To me it's weird if someone says they don't like reading books for fun.
4. I'm totally into stories. Any kinds, any time. I love books and movies, like to learn about the history (except most of the lessons in school), dream of having my own adventures, want to know myths, and wish to create a world of - yes, I have no idea what you would find there but it sure would be an awesome place!
5. I complain of little things. I'd call myself a perfectionist if I wasn't such a procrastinator. When I'm in the mood, I like to clean but if I'm told to do it, I can only force myself. Also, I'm organized with my calendar, knowing the time, etc, but my room might be in a creative mess.
6. Art in any form pleases me. If it's the right "genre". With art I mean drawings/paintings, music and crafting, as well as literature and well made confectionery. I also think about what words sound like, how numbers can be modified and changed to sth else, how colors affect us, and other stuff I don't know how to refer to them.
7. The last trailer I watched was of Treasure Island (1950)
8. I can be afraid of the dark, especially if I'm alone in a place that I don't know. AND if I hear sth I can't connect to anything, that's when I become terrified. In the other hand, I enjoy looking at the stars and the moon, and even walking outside during the night/evening imagining what could be happening in the darkness.
9. I love chocolate. And I've lived this year without eating any candy. That's sth to think about. But no, I didn't quit on anything baked.
10. I started learning Quenya by myself. I know only some basics now and hope to learn more!

10 random things about me..

1. I'm the oldest of my siblings, and I'm the only one, who aren't married or don't have kids yet.
2. I have a cat, who is really old and lazy. And she's also very angry lady, like me.
3. I actually like my job. I think that it's great and I'm so happy to work with kids. (I'm teacher's assistant and I'm happy with that. No ingress to become a teacher..)
4. I just got myself a new home, where I can see sea everyday. I love sea and this is my first time that I live near by it.
5. I tell everyone that I'm really a neat person, but I really hate cleaning and my home is really a mess. And every time that someone is coming to visit me, I need to clean hours.
6. I have dylexia, I'm afraid of dark (mainly outside), I also have acrophobia and claustrophobia. Which is very great thing now that I live in 10th floor.
7. I have tons of art and handicrafts projects in the middle part. I always love to start doing something artsy or crafty, but then my inspiration ends and there's tons of unfinished things in my home.
8. I love to cook, but I'm way too lazy to do it. And my previous kitchen was so small, that it was a struggle to do anything. Now I have a bigger kitchen, so it should be easier.
9. I tell everyone that I'm proud to be a single girl and I don't really need a man, but I would Love to find someone, who would think that I'm beautiful and would like to have me. It seems that no-one really wants me.
10. I'm vegetarian. I started at summer, and it has been quite easy decision. Not such a struggle like someone, whom I read from the net.

1. I really love to curse. I obviously don't do it much on this site, but there is nothing more therapeutic to me than some really juicy bad words. As long as they are not offensive to a particular group of people (which I do not constitute as curse words, but as hate speech), I have no problem blending them into everyday conversation. Even when I teach, I curse, and many students tell me that my cursing helps them remember the material.

2. I am 50% Italian. Despite my blonde hair and blue eyes, my father is a very dark man with brown hair, brown eyes, and olive skin. The only reason I know he's my father is because we share an almost freakishly prominent widow's peak.

3. I am the proud owner of two autoimmune diseases.

4. I think we are always too hard on the younger generation. We always think they are worse than we were at that age, which I can heartily disagree with. I think young people are smart, they still go outside, they are still creative, and they will be productive members of society. I don't think technology is ruining them. I don't think they are all fat and lazy and disinterested (and if they are, so what? They're teenagers for gods sakes). In fact, I think they are more curious than my generation was, they are more intelligent, they are progressing just as fast as we did (if not faster). All older generations think the younger generations are going down the path to the apocalypse. When truly, it is statistically proven the generation after us will always be smarter than we were. So to the younger generation--> Don't let old people tell you who you are. We're just jaded and we sometimes forget how horrible we were as kids and teenagers.

5. I think both science and art are important to the development of all human beings. (My father is a doctor and my mother is a painter, so this might be where this comes from).

6. I am an archaeologist at the moment (just got my Masters), but one day I would like to focus on my creative writing which I've been practicing since the fourth grade. (To sneak another one in here: I have been to 20+ countries).

7. I drink seltzer water like an addict.

8. I grew up by the ocean, but I am a mountain girl at heart. One day, I will have a log cabin where I drink brandy, go on long hikes, and have as little human contact as possible (except with my disgustingly handsome mountain man and his wooly beard.)

What a fun way to introduce folks! Here goes, briefly ...

1. I love to play Beethoven's piano sonatas, beginning to end; but I have a devilish hard time memorizing anything. I'm learning Beethoven's Op. 31 #1 sonata in G major, though - nice not to have to stumble over that one.

2. I have a reading blog, but I actually enjoy blogging (and reading) more when nobody reads it. I log on in the morning, and it's a happy, sunny morning when I see that nobody has read my blog. "Yay! I can post something again, and it's like being anonymous!"

3. I'm King Edward II's grandson (many, many links down the chain). Probably not something to brag about.

4. I love Jodie Foster - always have, always will. Wish I were her type.

5. Except for the BBC recent version, Sherlock drives me nuts. Too many members in my family love to read him (too many for me).

6. Every time I take "Which Hogwarts house are you in?" test, it puts me in Ravenclaw. I guess that makes me happy - I'm there with Luna Lovegood.

7. I love to read out loud. Since I like to read difficult things and think about them, reading out loud focuses my attention.

8. Too many times I've found myself in the orchestra pit, playing keyboards for musicals - I dislike musicals, grandly (except for "My Fair Lady" and "Meet Me In Saint Louis").

9. I am a desert-born rock hound, and I love to sit on yellow desert bluffs and tame the antelope - they actually get used to me, I'm so harmless. I'm the only person I know who can sit at a mountain foothill during deer hunt season, and the deer come to me - they know I'm not going to shoot 'em.

10. Both hemispheres of my brain function with equal strength. Kind of weird that I'm neither right- nor left-brained. I call myself "omnibrained."

I like reading the posts on this group - it's as though you're not all English majors trying to be the first to diss the Group Read - I love that.

I think it's strange too that self-proclaimed English majors think only literary fiction is a good genre. One of my majors in college was English, and one of the points of the major is to open your reading up to new genres and experiences. Not all genres are meant to focus on the same things. And just because something is easy to read, doesn't mean it isn't a good book, and just because something is hard to read, doesn't mean it is a good book. You don't have to like everything, but you also don't have to lie about what you like, which I think is too often the case.

3. I can almost always think of something good in the midst of something bad. I was confined to my assisted living apartment for 1 month because of shingles on my fact, in my mouth, and in my throat. I would start getting down about it. I would then think how grateful I was that it didn't go to my eye (could lose my sight) or my brain. I say, "I used to feel hopeless all the time, but then I realized that the hope always comes back. It's not my timing, but my creator's timing. It always comes back, which gives me hope right there!"
4. My favorite colors are yellow and orange, because they are so bright and cheery.
5. I love being by the water, but not in it. I am very afraid of having my head in water.
6. I love dogs and cats. I used to be strictly a dog person. I had to give up my last one, because I couldn't take care of her anymore. Then, I got a cat. I love cats. They really don't need much care, and despite what some may say, they are very affectionate and loyal.

Hello all!

1. I'm 21, and still like to sleep with something - at the minute it's a jumper so I don't look too stupid! I like to have something to hold onto.
2. I love to cook and bake, but I am the WORST at it! I once made cheese on toast, picked it up and the cheese slid off the bread!
3. I'm struggling with anxiety and depression, but haven't told anyone but my doctor and you guys about it. I just can't.
4. Other than family and my boyfriend. I have no one. I haven't had a single friend for about 5 years now. But I prefer to be alone.
5. My first ever clubbing/drinking/girlie time was the other weekend for my BF's sisters hen do. And as I expected - I hated it! Give me my bed and hot water bottle anytime!

7. I told my mum I'm not moving out until I can afford to buy all my furniture from ikea!

I work for a plastic surgeon who is one of the few people in the world who specialises in children born without eyes and reconstructs their faces to try to make them look as normal as possible to avoid them being picked on at school. 4. I have lived alone for 10 years, but my adult children, 4 grandchildren, and I visit each other often and share great times together.
