The Story of My Books

I really hope that paper and ink books don't get completely overthrown by the ebooks and readers like Amazon's Kindle! When I create my books, it is a form of art! It is my art, it is the paintbrush in my hand, it is my chisel, it is my color palette, it is my violin! I give attention to the choice in paper, the font types, the font sizes, the cover design, the size of the book itself.

When I was a child, I knew that each of my books had a distinct smell! The smell of their paper and binding. But it went beyond that; the textures of the papers told a story beneath the touch of my fingertips, I was able to guess how old a book was based upon how the pages sounded when I turned them, I studied the creases in the covers from where the book had been opened and reopened countless times before. Reading a book, owning a book, to me were unique conquests that were each distinct and  discernible by how the pages of the books sounded, what they smelled like, how the covers creased, what the binding felt like in my hand, how it fit into the palm of my hand, or the pressure it bore on me if I sat with it in my lap!

And from a very early age I had a dream to make books. The idea, the thought of making books enthralled me! The possibility that I myself could bring a book into existence, was such a worthy cause in my mind! Today though, I can see that many people are trading in the old magic for the new enticement of the modern-day "magic" called technology! Faster is better, easier equals better, more for less equates advantage! And so they want to stuff a hundred books into a single device, or pay 99 cents for an entire book they can read on an ipad. It is in this way that people are losing sight of the old magic of reading, similar in the ways that people once lost sight of all the magics of old! They've become now "myths" and "legends"! Things that are not real to the modern-day mind! I dread the day that paper and ink books become a thing of folk tales and gossip!

I take pride in my books, in how I've created them by myself, how every time I create a book I am fulfilling my enamored childhood fantasies! I take pride in being able to do my best in not only writing, but also in the areas of designing and generally pulling a book together! The process of creating a book is something like a miracle, it is the evidence that things belonging to the spiritual realm can be pulled into the physical realm! You have a feeling, the feeling becomes a thought, the thought becomes an execution of action, the action becomes a manuscript, the manuscript is scrutinized and polished, the polished manuscript is bound, then the binding is dreamed up and goes through the same process as the inside of it! It is a rigorous, beautiful evolution, an awe-inspiring growth that begins on the inside, making its way out until the water lily has come to full bloom on the water's surface!

There is such beauty, such deep magic, in everything! But there is that character of man, which, dwelling on the "other" side of his nature, succumbs to the less inspired choices, the quantity over quality, the easier over worthier. Such has been since the beginning of time, from big things down to the small things!

I want to give more, and that's why I truly hope that people will wake up and see that there is no reason to totally exchange the paperback for the ebook. I want people to touch the pages, to feel, smell, and listen! And taste the story as its aromas rise from in between those pages!

Yellow-lit Windows

I remember when I was little, I loved to gaze up at scenes like this, because I would try to feel what the people were doing within their  homes all alit with yellow light! I would count how many windows were lit, and then imagine what each person in each home was doing at that moment!

Still one of my favorite things to do!

The vast number of destinies that live and breathe in this world, thrill me to the bone!

An Evening's Pondering

People say "Tell me all about yourself, tell me what kind of a person you are!"

Then I say "I can say anything that I want to say to make you think what I want you to think, about me.  But wouldn't it be better if you stayed around for a while, took the time to look at me, see me, and know me? Then you could answer your own question!"

The world is turning into a fast-food business, people are forgetting to stop and smell and feel the meal, forgetting to take the time to know what each herb smells like, what each cut of meat tastes like, the texture of each noodle and the crispness of each vegetable. I don't want to bore myself telling people what the meal tastes like, I would rather find fulfillment in telling them to put everything down, take their shoes off, and sit at the table and eat! Then they can tell me what the food tastes like!

If someone refuses to trust me, based on the fact that I won't give them a five-minute speech of what they can expect from me, then I should conclude that the person is an idiot, easily fooled, easily swayed, and I shouldn't waste any of my time getting to know that person, because it would all be futile in the end, anyway!

With The Rise of the Blue Moon Comes Magic

Along with the rise of the Blue Moon, came a thing of magic! My newest book, The Suns Snow And The Sands Move: A thing of magic, a gift of poetry and prose; is now published and available for purchase!

Most of you don't know this about me, but I am very meticulous when it comes to colors! I always look at the name of a color, not just the hue of it! I think that people subconsciously pick up what the color represents and that's where the impact is! My book cover is painted in a hue called "Seafoam" and the text on the front and back of the cover is all in a color called "Wine"; in my mind's eye, a greatly desirable image is painted at the mere mention of these colors!

My emblem as seen incorporated into the cover art of this book as a pendant, was created for me as a person, not necessarily for this book only; it is a symbol of me. This whole book is embedded with symbolism, from the choice of colors to the cover art to the interior of the book to the writings themselves. Enjoy the magical journey!

Looking At The Sun

If you want to change the way that the world appears to be; you must change the way that you see everything in it. And if you want to change the world; you must change the way everyone else sees everything in it. And when everyone else sees everything in the world in a new way, the world will be changed and then mankind will turn their faces to the heavens in search of a brand new vision and then it will be able to see the heavens for what the heavens really are! That being because, in order for a person to change how he sees the world, he must first change the eyes of his soul and it is with those new eyes that man can look at the sun, that man can see the heavens, that man can know God. Then it is with these newfound truths that humanity will continue to live, but living by walking in a new reality.

I am inspired to write this, by the teaching of Plato below. As I read this teaching of Plato, I immediately see that he was speaking of the acquisition of truth (which he also refers to in his teachings as the thing that is closest to wisdom); such are the transitional phases of the acquisition of truth unto wisdom. And it's upon this reading that a dimension was opened to my mind, and I saw what I've written here, above.

“And first he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves, then he will gaze upon the light of the moon and the stars and the spangled heaven.... Last of all he will be able to see the sun.” (Plato; The Republic book 7)

The Stray

The Stray

She looked weary and worn

Her stomach bloated

Having just given birth

She lay in the rock garden

Over summer-roasted stones

Calmly contemplating

I sat down at the glass doors

And slowly opened them

So to not give her a fright

I cooed and called out to her

Cautiously she heeded my voice

And doubtingly made her way t’wards me

Two slices of bologna I tore

And fed to her piece by piece

She glanced up at me

With her big, green eyes

Every time she came near to take a bite

So afraid was she

Yet through all her fear

Through all her doubt

She remained graceful

She was of lowly status

Perchance this was her biggest meal

The most food she had ever known!

Four slices of bologna

Two small fish and some cheese

A shallow cup full of cold water, too

In all her lowliness

In all her lack of glory

She held her head high, gracefully

She moved with the flow of honor

And dignity; I called her into my home

But she wouldn’t dare put her paws on my floor!

She looked at my floor, then she looked at herself

And thought herself not worthy to step inside!

But still, she held her head high!

Grace and dignity clothed her

From the tip of her tail to her paws

Her big green eyes so beautiful

She ate until she could eat no more!

Her kittens called to her from behind the fountain

Her face so small, expressed so much gratitude!

The cat did not think herself of great stature

She did not see herself to be of so much worth

But she knew grace and dignity

But she knew gratitude

Oh all the people who ought to be like this cat...

Pink, Purple, and Blue Hair

I want to share with you a true story lifted from the pages of my childhood; moments in an NYC cab that I will never forget:

When I was just a little girl, we visited New York City. My parents were both deathly afraid of everything on the outside of our little yellow cab. They repeatedly asked each other if the doors were locked, and if we were all SURE that the doors were locked! My heart started pounding from fear that was being induced by their fear! I wondered what they were so afraid of! Finally the culprit was identified! "Look! People with pink hair! And purple and blue! EEeeeeeeeeeee!" And I dared myself to look out the window. But when I did look out and see for my own eyes, I didn't feel fear, at all! In fact, I thought "Oh how wonderful! Pink and purple and blue hair standing up high into the air!" And I compared my feeling of wonderment to my parents' feeling of fear! They taught me to be afraid of what was on the outside of our little yellow cab, but when I looked for my own self, I felt something different! It was wonderful to see people with pink and purple and blue hair! And so, at that tender age, I decided that the way we look at things, changes our experience of them, and changes our perceptions of other people, and changes (most importantly) how we feel on the inside!

We can choose to make things bad, on the other hand, we can choose to make those same things wonderful! And how we do that, which direction we face, affects not really the other people that we're looking at, or the things that we're looking at, but ultimately, the only person it affects is you, the only people our perceptions affect, are us! We can either be like my parents, or be like me!

“If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment.”

“Though you break your heart, men will go on as before.”

“If you are pained by external things, it is not they that disturb you, but your own judgement of them. And it is in your power to wipe out that judgement now.”

“Look beneath the surface; let not the several quality of a thing nor its worth escape thee.”

“If a person has an appreciation and understanding of the Universe, there is hardly anything that won’t appear beautiful. Such a person will find equal pleasure in looking at paintings and wild animals. He will see in every person a sweet freshness and light. Vision will be his gift, and he will see beauty where others see nothing.”

“Things of the world cannot touch the soul. The soul can only touch itself.”

“I am not threatened unless I judge events as being evil. And it is within my power to not view things this way.”

~ All quotes above by the stoic, Marcus Aurelius.

Let Me Introduce You To Truth

Life is going to be very pitiful, for those who live by the belief that "No one is better, all people are equal." And a person like that is going to have a lesser existence on this planet, because: Life will remind that person over and over again, how wrong that belief is! Because in this world you will meet those who have more than you, there's going to be those who are far more beautiful than you are, far more rich than you are, far more successful, far more loved, far more happy! And if you wake up every day, and deny that truth, life isn't going to hand you any better than you already had! Because that's not how this world functions. There are people that are better, and things aren't equal, that's not how things are, the cosmos doesn't owe you fairness and equality! But stop and think about this for a moment: if everything was equal and fair, and the existence of "better" and "more" was null; what would this world really be like? Everything would align and stop at the same point! And what point would that be? The medieval era when there was no such thing as penicillin? World War 1? World War 2? Or perhaps the beautiful renaissance period? And then every existence on the planet would stop to repeat itself day after day after day, nothing would change, people would always die for the same reasons, wear the same fashion of clothing, have the same mindset (and what mindset would that be, do you think? Of all the mindsets in the world, what would be the designated mindset of everyone on this earth?) And people would always live for the same reasons too, earn the same paychecks, have the same job (and what job would that be, I ask you? What if everyone owned a business? And then who would work for every business? And who would be a doctor? A nurse? A fashion designer?) I tell you this for certain: That if everything and everyone were equal, and "better" wasn't a fact, then hope would be of no use, it wouldn't even exist! Perseverance would be an alien term! Dreams wouldn't happen! The world would never get better, nothing would evolve in any way, and let me ask you this: What would the purpose of life be? It would be: "nothing."

So you see my friends, it is stupidity to shun people that are better than you. It is better to thank them, because they have shown you how to dream, how to hope, how to work hard, how to persevere, they have shown you how it feels to admire (a beautiful state of man is the state in which he admires another), they've also pointed you in the direction of this value called "acceptance"! They have shown you so many things, that someone equal to yourself could never!

It's almost ironic that when an individual is able to realize this (what I've written above), then that person will be able to see the definition of "equality"; then equality will begin to float to the surface! When you realize the concept above, then you'll be able to see the equality in every thing and every one: in that your worker in your store lives a life that is no less important than your life! Because if your worker was also a business owner, then he wouldn't be working for you in your store, and you wouldn't be able to have a successful business! The person who works at McDonald's mopping and disinfecting floors, has a life just as valuable as your own life, because if he were a bank teller like you are, then you wouldn't be able to eat at a clean McDonald's restaurant! It would be filthy! And if all people were bank tellers just like you (if that were the point at which everyone aligned) then there wouldn't even be a McDonald's! We would only have banks! And for what? And how would we even be able to put money in those banks, and why would they even exist? "Purpose" wouldn't even be real! So, every one has a life that is equally valuable. The equality exists in the fact that all lives are equally worth that same amount of respect! The realization of equality is brought forth, by the realization of inequality and the appreciation of it! Because by inequality, there is the abundance of hope, and of dreams, and of PURPOSE.

People say that this concept is "different" and that it is something "interesting" and "new" and I say BY JOVE! how can a common sensical, every day reality become something "different" and "interesting" and "new"? But this has become the case, because people are not allowed to see this everyday, common sensical reality! People have not been living in reality, people have been blinded, people are lied to, people are told that everyone and everything is equal, that nothing and no one is better! Unfortunately, that lie becomes the reality of people and incredibly, the reality becomes the "different" the "something new", the "interesting"! My friends, such is the greatness of the lie! That the truth has become an obscure concept! The common, every day truth that anyone should be able to see with his or her two eyes on his/her face!

My Son,

Words do not suffice to express

my love for my son, but this comes close:

My Son,

I want to wrap up this world

Then throw it into the trash

And make a new world for you

I want to tie up the lies, the deception

Bind up the threats, the hurt

Crumple it all and throw it away

Give you a new world

I want to make a new world for you

And make it a wonderful world

If I could roll it all up

And cast it all away

I would, For you

If I could form a new ocean

A new mountain

A new valley, a new horizon

I would, For you

So I write to the people

Setting them free

One day, your world will be

Free

So I talk to the people

I give them wings

One day, your world will be

Winged

So I call to the people

I give them gifts

One day your world will be

Beautiful

So I pull down principalities

Expose their hiding places

One day your world will be

Light

My son,

I can’t wrap up this world

And birth a new one for you

But I will change this one

So one day you will have

Only beauty and sight and freedom

Only trust and courage and light

Because I love you my son

I will change this world

For you
