OUT OF LUX discussion

It would, because maybe your thief isn't a strong summoner with magic. They'd steal food if they couldn't summon it or if they didn't have family supporting them. Anyone could steal for pleasure. Family heirlooms, anything on a yard or in a house. Trading is the system, and it's basically you grow crops? I hunt, so we trade and both have those different forms of sustenance. Status is shown by possessions and notoriety. If one noble family runs the water supply for the city, that's fame. Or Elizabeth's family who runs the militia. Or a noble family who is very well known for being strong advocators for certain rights, of the like.

so I can't find this anywhere despite feeling as if I saw it before: for cogsworks, what are the ages of the students? I feel like I remember seeing something saying kids go there from ages 8-18 but am I imagining things?

“It teaches kids from age five to eighteen on the basics of magic, but also general life skills like reading and math, because it is still a regular school. (We know we said that it starts at a very young age, but please don’t make a character younger than twelve.) Students start out in general classes on all fields of magic, and as they age, they take more and more specialized classes on their chosen schools of magic. By the time they are leaving the academy, they will have specialized and advanced knowledge of one or two fields of magic and a general understanding of all magic, preparing them for a magical life in the city.”

thank you howler!! Sorry for the confusion Elizabeth, we definitely need to update the little directory thing with where to find stuff

Would it make sense if a character had the inborn ability to see flashes of the future, or is that just not feasible? Would it instead work as a honed magic skill if not?

no no it’s okay!
We actually removed abilities like that from the magic system (it’s just dnd but slightly edited) because it felt overpowered and kinda odd for an rp environment. Maybe flashes of the past maybe but not future. Sorry!

INHALES
is there a possibility that shadowfog can be contained in an object? like, in a lucky situation or certain circumstance? or no? (going to assume this is a no)
but anyways can there be like a museum (this is technically a suggestion but who cares) with like different sections (fossils, music, art, etc)
i say maybe yes once the runalithe people and the cities come together and use technology and magic because there will be a happy ending. right? but for now it's fully deadly. spellcasters can use shields and protection to allow people to enter the shadwfog, but that's about it in terms of combating it.
yes as topics or what though? what do mean you

okay bet cause i was thinking of having a character that has like literal shadowfog in containment units later (or possibly a scientist that’s trying to replicate it in some way)
probably a singular topic, we need more places for roleplay honestly
Not weird at all, Isabella and I are doing a plot with that too. That's the main plot, it makes sense. It'd likely be my character Bodhi, as he's the assassin, but truly any of them could manage it since the objective changed to murder anyways. Do you want the build-up to be roleplayed?

I'm doing it cause it would be good character development for another OC of mine. The character killed would be the miner i have who just so happens to be the father of a voxthain councillor. I was gonna write the death into the history but I felt like rping it would be more meaningful.
And for the build-up, I'm gonna need you to specify. What exactly do you mean?
Awesome! We love plot/character development deaths. <3 I'd love to roleplay that with you. I mean, how the death happens. Building up to that point. Do you want to make any relationships with that character first or roleplay with someone who has a Runalithe member that kills them?

I'm currently doing an RP with his daughter the councillor. So they have a relationship, and then I'm thinking the morning after as he returns to the mines where he works he'll be followed and drained of magic, leaving his body there to be found. Then she goes through all of that development.

Lets say I steal an existing OC of mine thats like a normal human, right?
and convert him into a Luxful being...
?????
Does that question make sense?

not a mod but I think it’s fine, legit all of my characters are my OCs from other groups that I edited for Lux XD
nani you should focus on reading the lore entirely and asking any questions before doing characters, YOU'RE ON A SWITCH for gosh's sake xD

EXATLY ITS HARD TO FOCUS N EVERYTHNG LIKE IM TAKING IT IN DOSES but fine I digress and I will revisit this
in 12 minutes (Im joking, I'll take my time, but this storyline goes sl crazy I just want to be part of it)
And you will be. You'll be one of our roleplay extraordinaires in no time, but when you have those devices xD
I don't believe magic can create another sentient thing. It can behave as one if the user is controlling its actions but not on its own. Something can be enchanted to move or do stuff on its own but it needs to be directed to do so by a living person.

So is it possible to create an artificial intelligence? For the item

One more question. Is it possible for the character im making to create an ai ? (Of course it would take a long time and most of his life’s work)

could magic be like not accessed until a certain age if that makes sense? like is there something that could "awaken" magic? and now that we're talking about it, what age does magic usually start to show? what triggers it?
@Kiraju: No, because this world is magic-based, not technology. That is not possible.
@Ash: If they had been delayed due to lack of training or knowledge that they have powers, yes, but everyone has powers and they can present themselves at any point. We didn't flesh that out because it's different for every character, so that's up to you. I'd say as early or late as you want but everyone needs to remember that all Luxians have magic, there are no exceptions except for either being silenced/a spell being used is suppressing someone's magic or they just choose not to for whatever reason.

okay is there a chance that maybe a character had say like water powers and that's what they've lived with their entire life cool fire chill and maybe they had like uhm some sort of manipulation power that makes others listen to them, but they never realized because it just happened by itself, and wasn't like a visible thing? like they think people are just gullible or are used to getting their way, but actually they've been unconsciously using it their entire life?

the highest level in the system is as high as we’re going to keep from characters being too overpowered. You can suggest additions to the current list, but the rankings won’t change

How is spellcasting / magic working? I understand the different types and spells and stuff. But how does it feel and look when it's cast? What does the caster think or do?
