bella and i haven't really thought of that damn
good question, uhhhhhh. raincheck on that answer? i have NO idea
hashtag intellectually constipated

i mean they could definitely have powers like psychometry etc, so that the science aspect is overshadowed by the magic? it was definitely inspired of off dr. temperance "bones" brennan from bones the tv show, but a lot of the insights could be off of powers (i can try to think of some and run them by you?) instead of like technological research.
okay, yeah, i watched most of a season of bones when i was at my boring job last year. if you can turn that into a more magic process, i think you're totally good to do that and it would be a very fun character

would i be able to make a character who is like, a hacker, if that makes sense? good at magically and technologically hacking her way into other places and shit like that? and if so, would a position in the militia as like, some backend hacker-type, gain-information for people by sitting down and doing that, hijacking anything unsavory, communications-type person exist?

is there a possibility that I can make like a newspaper type thing? the idea is that the Seavey family is influential through media and propaganda and stuff and they have full power over those publications able to manipulate however they want. mods, does this fit the group or no? aka am I allowed to do that?
elizabeth
there's not a whole lot of that level of technology within the cities themselves, but if you're talking like magic hacking into wards and stuff, yes absolutely.
edit: hacking into personal correspondences oh my gosh wait yes that's so good
alpha
yes oh my gosh yes!!!!! do it!!!

got it! and yeah, I can work with magic and hacking into wards and, yes, personal correspondences and such, if there's some security threat or something?
yeah, absolutely! i mean there's zero government oversight for the militia, so they can kind of do what they want... even hacking into personal correspondences

tho me realizing there is zero government oversight for any of the noble claims on any of this stuff omg

1. are there any potions that would actually be like prescription medication, or no?
2. are these potions only traded in asterath?
3. how exactly would a voxthain noble go about procuring them?
Bella!
1) Prescription, no, I don’t think? Unless there’s a plausible reason for an Asterath potion maker to contact a healer to give out their concoction, which would probably not happen. If someone had hallucinations, for example, then yes if it were tested on willing candidates and proved safe and working, then it’d be less of a “potion” and more of a “medicine”. Imagine potion as another word for drugs, that’s the vibe there.
2) Nope, just like with the fighting ring, Voxthain will be all up in Asterath’s businesses. Hell, Voxthain people are probably the leading sources of trade for that stuff.
3) Up to you! I was envisioning a lot of magic being used to conceal identities. Potion makers don’t care who’s offering for a potion, they just care that they get what they ask for in valuables and comfort items from Voxthain.

yeah… she’s currently trying to find something that can someone’s heart stop beating for some time and fake death
do it!!! i love that alpha is and she is giving me the confidence to do it myself. i think you absolutely should!!!

just do it! it's really fun to do when you just want to RP with someone. and when you don't want to you don't have to worry either. don't feel bad about being judged, you're being you in the best way possible!

I don’t know if this has already been asked, but how long have the runalithe squad been doing their work for now? i’m trying to think how long ago my second was recruited :)

oh yeah, also how exactly would have the squad been formed? like would there have been a recruiting selection process or like who’s idea was it - basically who would have recruited the members and how would they have known about it?
that was to the language part, sorry it's taken so long for me to see this
present day the squad would have been in the cities for a solid couple of weeks and are just beginning to consider killing because they can't get enough magic from just the earth itself
the runalithe government formed them and you can make up whatever you want for how your character was recruited

would the different cities have different accents though? like an asterathi accent or a voxthain accent or…? so for example if alianna had a voxthain accent so it was suspicious for the crew? (i’m not making assumptions, just an example) :)
@bella
it's all present day but within a couple of weeks, if that makes sense. i'm doing a roleplay where it's bodhi's first murder and the crew have just begun to consider killing, but others may be doing roleplays where there are deaths already. we're not doing timeline stuff because that gets confusing but it's all within the same few weeks, if that helps at all.
@aelin
you can make anything up! the cities are meant to be diverse and massive. an asian family could have an accent or a posh noble family could have one, it's all creative freedom. everyone pictures characters differently so we weren't going to limit the visualizations by giving strict races and accents. you can definitely make something up there!

What is the customary thing that these people do for the dead? Do they have rituals and reincarnation? Do they make ashes to sprinkle? Are there graveyards someplace in the city?
that's up to you, every family/person will be different. there are for sure graveyards but i'd assume memorials and a pretty garden area and more than dingy gravestones. they mostly all believe magic returns to the earth so when someone dies they just return to where the magic came from, so it would definitely be a peaceful place rather than a dark and gloomy place

So like you think the graveyards would be nice, with pretty flowers and vines and stuff to represent the beautiful life that has come from those who passed? Gravestones of like marble or something similar with engravings of name, lifespan, and stuff? Is this image what your seeing?
yep! i just wanted to make that clear, that while death isn't celebrated, it is respected. otherwise it's all up to your character individually

just curious :) technically speaking, since we are roleplaying in the present but give or take a few weeks/months, could a character be in two roleplays at the same time?
@aelin: i don’t see why not, but be careful about timelines and maybe try to do one character in a roleplay at a time but there’s no rule against having a character in two roleplays. just be careful is all
what would a forensic anthropologist/pathologist in this world? lwk i feel like that would be an important role, especially with all these murders
