Although there is of course a lot of similar corruption and abuse happening across the sex work industry.
You made a lot of assumptions about what I meant and to what I was referring in your response, none of which reflect my actual thoughts.
Also: terms like prostitute and prostitution are slurs. Let's refer to sex workers and sex work instead, as that is typically the preferred terminology of sex workers themselves.

Good riddance to an abusive creep

Thanks for posting Ana! I was just about to contribute.
There's nothing wrong with soft porn, or any porn for that matter, and the fact that Hefner produced a magazine like Playboy isn't necessarily problematic (imo.)...
But... he was horrible to the women in his employ and personal life by all accounts. And I think it's fair to assume that those behaviors are reflected in his business as well.

We invite members to send in their recommendations for books that are similar to Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body.
Please send me (Katelyn) a direct message with your book recommendation with a short explanation of WHY it is similar to Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body (genre, subject matter, writing style, etc.).
As I receive recommendations, they will be added to this post.
**Self-promotion will not be tolerated and will be reported to Goodreads**
**This is a trial run of this kind of thread, it may become a staple post for each book if it's a success!**

Then go ahead and share what YOUR meet-up had to say about the book in the Shared Meet-Up Experiences thread.

We want to hear from those of you who have attended OSS meet ups for Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body in your area about what you discussed, your thoughts on the book, and other ideas you covered this time around.

Sure, any kind of meet-up is appropriate. We're hoping to increase the amount of ideas we're sharing with one another about each book, so that would be equally valuable.

**Assuming this is of interest, we'll be starting this same thread for each book, so those of you attending meet ups might want to take some notes to share with everyone moving forward!**

Thanks for the recommendation. In the interest of organization, we do not allow individual threads for book suggestions. You can suggest it for the group by following the directions here: How to Suggest a Book
Additionally, you can suggest it in relevant book lists in the book suggestion folder. Those lists are based on subject matter, genre, etc. You can start your own list if you don't see one for a particular subject or genre already, but please check first, as we will remove duplicate threads.

I think if you take the time to read through the entire thread here, you'll see a number of very well-thought comments about why people interpret the story differently than you do. In my capacity as moderator here, I also ask that you be careful about your language as it comes across a bit patronizing. We can disagree without being disrespectful to one another, and that is something we value on Our Shared Shelf.

This is not a group to promote your book. You can, of course, mention your book, but if your post consists of nothing other than a description of your book, a request for reviews, a special offer or giveaway, etc., please do not post it. Any self-promotional comments will be deleted by the moderator.

Please keep this thread on topic, specifically feminism in Beauty and the Beast.
Thanks!

I suggest you post any other recommendations there so we can keep the folder easy to navigate.

I'm doing some clean up in the Book Suggestions folder. The purpose of the folder is to make it easier to find books of a specific genre or subject. As this is a list of many books on different themes, I'm going to lock and archive this thread. I suggest you post your recommendations either in one of the other general category threads, or according to topic by book in various threads so readers can find specific books that they are interested in!
