Mae Padua-janusas | 26 comments Thanks VNF!! You're the best!!!
The countdown has begun...

15 weeks and 3 days

Kritchie | 126 comments @VNF Thanks for the "not in vain"! Love your snippets! They are what keeps me hanging in there!

And correct me if I am wrong, but I thought Kim wrote on FB that the publisher only lets one book out per year. So the last will be Feb. or Mar. 2015?

AWE!!! Well crap of toast!! That's a year, 15 weeks and 3 days till the last book comes out :(. I hope they make an exception and release the last one early? Maybe?

Megan | 31 comments I'm trying to figure out what is going to happen with Ellasbeth and the kids if Trent and Rachel to get together.
Kim wrote in the read-along: "And then there was Ellasbeth. Oh man, I really wanted her to be a walk-on, walk-off character, but her personality was so strong that I had to give her more. I’m trying hard now not to give spoilers for the last two books, but life is weird, and the best fiction mirrors that. Especially when children are involved."

What does she mean when she says that life is weird?! That better not mean that Trent and Ellasbeth get back together. I'd be very disappointed.

Megan, I attended one of Kim's author signings last year for Ever After and I asked her about Ellasbeth. She answered that Ellasbeth isn't the type of woman to just fade away and that she'd be around until the end. Not having read the last book yet (obviously, lol) I can't say for certain what will happen BUT Kim has said that she's aiming for HEAs for everyone. With that in mind, I can't see how a political marriage to Ellasbeth could in any way be construed as a happy ending for Trent. More like burying him alive...

Kind of disappointing... but I think it's good that whoever is selling the arc isn't making $400+ profit.

Me too! :-( I will not lie - I would love to have a ARC but not like that.

I will wait and speculate here with all the beautiful souls and thoughts that come bubbling up from all our stretched patience and sheer crazy rantings until 2/2014 gets here.

It should probably round out at around $100. I'm sure it'll head up toward the end. But I agree it's not been popcorn worthy, unlike THOR which I just came back from and it totally is!!

I too just saw THOR and loved it! But as I sat there I had to wonder just how many of the audience knew the Norse legends and even understood or cared about the back story to what they were seeing.

I think I found out about the fever series (my 2nd fav) and Kate Daniels (3rd fav) from you in another thread, great recommendations! I tried the Dory books. While I really like her character and Louis Cesare, and Radu also there is just something about her writing style that makes it hard for me. Someday I will go back and reread them. I will have to look into the bloodline series. I also like the Chicagoland series for a quick and fun read.

That's awesome! It's good to know my tastes can be pretty good for the REALLY good stuff! The Dory books, I can understand people having a hard time with them. She does herself no favors by releasing them ever 2 years (if we're lucky). And I don't like her writing all the time. For instance, I love the Dory books, but I have a hard time with the Cassie books. If you do Bloodlines you should probably read Vampire Academy first, though you don't really have to. It just helps you connect a little more with the lead characters. I didn't think VA was that great but then I ended up LOVING Bloodlines so who knows. Chicagoland vamps I really liked in the beginning but I think I tapped out around Book 4.

Oh and congratulations on new mommyhood!

VampireNovelFan | 489 comments Looks like the ARC sold for $61.01.

Mellifluous | 41 comments I have tried Karen Chance and felt much the same way. Both series started good but I sort of lost interest a few books in. If you are looking for something urban fantasy but are prepared to be flexible with the species of supe, I have to say Marjorie M Liu's series about Hunter Kiss (starts with The Iron Hunt) is good and also Melissa Marr's series about the faerie (starting with Wicked Lovely). Both are quite different, but have many parallels with Kim's writing; compelling story-telling in an urban fantasy setting, interesting characters/character development and fantastic world building/descriptions of magic.

I have two under 7 and am now expecting my third next year... so I hear you Tina. Congratulations-and enjoy your new snuggly bundle.

Mellifluous | 41 comments @ Megan

Like Veronica, I don't think Trent will end up with Ellasbeth. I agree that she would make him majorly unhappy and therefore it is not going to happen. The question is though, if they are not together, then how will the custody situation with the children play out? I can imagine that if Trent stays single (and therefore potentially available to Ellasbeth) that things should continue to be quite civil between them; however, if Trent ends up ditching it all to be with Rachel, then I can see a whole host of unwelcome possibilities opening up, which is I think what Kim may be alluding to when she says: "but life is weird, and the best fiction mirrors that. Especially when children are involved."

My gut reaction is that if Trent were ever to enter into a public relationship with Rachel, Ellasbeth would use Rachel's demon heritage and uneasy truce(?) with the witches to argue that Rachel (and by extension Trent)is an unfit parent/guardian for the girls. Expensive custody battles, Rachel and Trent's dirty washing/shady histories and Ray's parentage made public courtesy of Ellasbeth's powerful family connections/legal team and of course, the fall-out on Trent's business interests and political standing. Of course it might not be the sort of thing that is settled through the courts (thinking of Trent's elf-quest) but then, that presumably means more attempts on Trent and Rachel's lives, potential abduction scenarios etc. Worst, I fear that Trent would be put in a position where he might have to decide who/what was more important to him-a public relationship with Rachel, or custody of his children. Yup... in some ways I am really dreading the fall out from TUP if what I think is going to happen actually happens. But then again, Trent is supposedly well-liked amongst the elves and is a leader and so on and Ellasbeth may not have as much political clout as Trent so all my speculation could simply be a storm in the tea cup... Is it February yet?

"Great Minds think alike"...I too am driving myself crazy with similar thoughts. Here are some of mine:

I keep circling the ideas of Trent in Ku'sox lab saying that he knew what his priorities were now and it did not include the elf race but his own child which he gave to Rachel thinking he might have to stay with the demon. So would that mean he trusted her most with his heart too? And if Trent can make Ellasbeth meet him and Rachel in the park to pick-up and drop off Lucy then what else can he make her do...

I think Trent has more power in the elf community than Ellasbeth or there would have been more trouble before this.

What has me worried is the wild magic and the demons/dead vampires both of which have issues with Trent and Rachel. No matter what they are together these factions could tear both their lives apart.

message 221: by Megan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Megan | 31 comments Rachel would definitely make a better mother than Ellasbeth and if Trent is truly making Lucy more of a priority over the elf race then he wouldn't want to marry Ellasbeth.
Trent should have more power in the elf community since he stole Lucy in the elfquest but since they have joint custody, maybe that doesn't matter? Is Ellasbeth trying to kill Rachel because she wants Trent back? If so, then why did she break it off in the first place?
I know that the dead vampires don't want Trent and Rachel together because she's helping him revitalize the demon and elf races. I'm curious to see if Rachel will be able to help the vampires keep their souls after death or not.
Could anyone see Ellasbeth and Quen getting together? Is that too gross to think of happening? It keeps coming to my mind because they're spending all that time with the girls together.

VampireNovelFan | 489 comments Megan wrote: "Rachel would definitely make a better mother than Ellasbeth and if Trent is truly making Lucy more of a priority over the elf race then he wouldn't want to marry Ellasbeth.

I wouldn't wish Ellasbeth on anyone but Jonathan.

message 223: by Megan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Megan | 31 comments Lol! I agree.

Kritchie | 126 comments Me Too! Maybe they both would be better as hounds for the hunt?

If memory serves me right; Trent "granted" or "decided to share" Ellasbeth joint custody after the death of Ceri.
No one made him so that would leave him with more power and he promised Rachel a "say" on the future of his elf quest. Which is Lucy.

message 225: by Becca (new) - rated it 5 stars

Becca | 24 comments Rachel is already Lucy's godmother whether she with trent or not

Mellifluous | 41 comments I guess the question is... how vindictive is Ellasbeth really and how much does she hate Rachel and would want to get back at her for 'stealing' Trent (her interpretation, not mine). I too, was prepared to dismiss Ellasbeth as bit player in the next two bookss. That was, until I read Kim's blog entry that was quoted above and then, yes. My heart went plop right into my boots. I think that Trent should turn both Jonathan and Ellasbeth into Hounds. They would truly be much nicer that way (and useful too).lol.

message 227: by Megan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Megan | 31 comments Rachel is godmother to Lucy, I think, so that gives her some say.

The only good thing about Ellasbeth is that she does seem to care about Lucy in her own way.

message 228: by Becca (new) - rated it 5 stars

Becca | 24 comments But she doesn't care about Lucy as much as she cares for power. When trent "stole" her in million dollar baby, she was willing to kill them both rather than let him get Lucy which, in turn, would give him more power

message 229: by Veronica (last edited Nov 12, 2013 06:54AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Veronica (readingonthefly) Not to mention that Ellasbeth's own mother thought that Lucy would be better off with Trent than with Ellasbeth - her own daughter. Apparently Lucy had never smiled even once until she saw Trent, which is sad. And then there was the comment that Ellasbeth had enough dolls (or words to that effect).

Kritchie | 126 comments Me Too - Congratulations Moms to be Zee and Tine! It is a great time of year that good news! My first was Christmas news and while it takes some juggling, there will be time. I like that too but the real reason is that Rachel reminds me of my oldest (single) daughter so much that I am dying to get her to find time in her life for this series!

VampireNovelFan | 489 comments Congrats all around! Can't really provide any advice on this end though. I love kids but I'm not ready for my own yet.

Mellifluous | 41 comments Congrats Zeenat. When are you due? I am expecting my third in May next year.

On that topic, although I want to see Trent and Rachel together, I really don't want there to be any talk of babies in the last two books. Maybe it is because I have enough of that IRL lol... I would still like to see demon babies though (I like the idea of how the mother has to curse them in the womb to determine what they look like). Perhaps Kim could write a short story or something. As long as it was after Book 13, I would even be open to the possibility of a demon/elf baby ;-)

Rebecca | 3 comments I think it's safe to say there'll be no more babies in the last 2 books, there are enough already! Trent already has 2 and then there are all the Rosewood babies that Rachel has promised to help raise! I think they'll make a quite cool integrated modern family that'll suit Rachel and there is no rush for her.

In the end it's up to Kim, but I can't see her taking Rachel down the mommy route.

VampireNovelFan | 489 comments Kim has said that she sees Rachel as a mom, she just won't be writing it.

Veronica (readingonthefly) But they can have lots of fun practicing to make babies in the meantime! ;)

I'm sure they will...I mean would ~_^. Besides their interspecies relationship would be the perfect birth control until she REALLY wants one.

I agree that it seems very unlikely that Trent and Ellasbeth will end up together. I like to think what goes around comes around and that by the end of the series she won't even be in a position to have any type of parental rights with Lucy. After she tried to have Trent (and therefore Lucy) and Rachel killed, (two of the people he cares about he most), I don't think Trent will tolerate it. As for how it plays out, can't wait to read it!!!

I want to see this too but I think it would be neat if Jenks would move into Trent's garden too!

Mellifluous | 41 comments I think I would like Rachel to move in with Trent. That could be really funny-but unfortunately, I don't see it happening in the next book, even if they were to get together. She is still too attached to her church and her independence. What I could see is an attack on Rachel in Book 13 that would result in the destruction of the church (whether Rachel destroyed it defending herself or someone destroyed it trying to get to her)which would force her to move into Trent's place 'temporarily' while the church was being repaired. Now that would be apocalyptic. Perhaps Newt remembers something, has a brain storm and comes back looking for Rachel with the intent to kill? Perhaps Ellasbeth decides to take matters into her own hands a la Kisten and uses dynamite. Best of all... Trent and Rachel would get to be roomies (thinking of Donkey and Shrek here). Would Rachel get Ellasbeth's room or would she share Trent's...lol
