I'll start the poll! I'm going to wait...the way that Kim writes is perfect for the slow burn. I want to experience that chapter the way Kim intended.
It will NOT be easy though! Will have to stay strong!

One year (approximately) from the release of TUP.

Poop!! okay...thank you! :) I know..so impatient LOL!

I resemble that remark, Lindsay! What did you think of the way the date would have ended in..."
I think she's trying to convince herself that she doesn't really want it as much she does. It can't hurt as much when you don't get it, right?

I don't know how you are doing it! I feel like a Hollows junkie, I will take whatever I can get!!

On a different note, I was waiting for the bartender to tell them to get a room!!

I do hope though that Trenchel is not the sure thing that the previous books hint at. It would be … boring?

There's still some pretty big hoops to jump through still, Ellasbeth, Al, Quen, Cormel, various prejudices from others. Can't wait to read it.

This! lol But, when you think about it, the fact that they've had this hands-off period of three months spent being around each other and getting to know each other will set their relationship apart from any of Rachel's other romantically inclined relationships where sex usually followed pretty quickly. I kind of like that.

Me Too! I think she was just beginning to understand what she could have and wanted that last kiss if she was going to hurt anyway. At this point when she thinks it through she is going to be too far in emotional to get out without pain.
She already cares too much and her emotions are involved while her mind is resisting admitting it.

I don't think he WANTS to, I just think he's resigned himself to it.
Right, Zee? :)

I don't think he WANTS to, I just ..."
LOL that's my take! I think he is a responsible man. He's accepted his faith unless someone else reminds him otherwise...

But the whole need-to-marry-Ellasbeth thing makes no sense to me anymore because Lucy already exists. The Kalamacks and the Withons are joined forever now through her so why isn't Trent and Ellasbeth co-parenting (and not being married) enough?

And I think we need to remember that most of what we are basing this on is the old Quen. The one that hasn't felt the loss of Ceri. We haven't really gotten a feel for or any insight into Quen (post-Ceri). How will his attitude change? He has loved and lost now. That seems to change people forever. Not to mention, he has lived 3 months with Ellasbeth. (That should certainly make the water clearer!)

Yes, Zee. That was insightful to say the least, eh? Makes me that much more excited for chapter 22!

I think a lot of the pressure is a cultural backlash. Elves have their way of doing things and they view it as the only "right way". Trent (and for that matter, Ellasbeth) is kind of stuck in that "child of immigrant" type of deal. Trent especially being so entrenched with the other cultures (Witches, Humans) and he grew up watching his parents work with Rachel's dad... He is really stuck.

No, in Ever After, after Rachel rescued Lucy, Quen seemed to be on the "marriage with Ellasbeth" train, although he wanted Rachel to be in his life so "he can be who he wants to be".
But Maybe you are right. Living with Ellasbeth for 3 months could change things! Why would you want that woman near your CHILDREN!?!? lol I know the Hollows world is forgiving... BUT forgiveness does not mean you have to but kids in unhealthy situations!

Yeah, but Ceri's death hadn't really soaked in yet. This is a man that never thought he'd find true love. Duty was everything. Life has changed, but will it soften his heart and make urge him to live in the moment or make him an even stauncher advocate of duty?
But then, along the lines of what you are saying, I believe that VNF put a quote out there on her ARC read. It seems telling, but I can't quite find it. (therefore can't quote it, grr) VNF...can you help us out? It's the quote with Quen in Rachel's church.

Sorry for the absence. The Olympics (namely figure skating) has my full attention :P. The quote with Quen. The only one I posted was
""Warriors build empires around the kernel of truth that others overlook," came Quen's soft voice, and then there was nothing but his steps going fainter until the boom of the church's front door."
If I missed anything let me know, it's all here:

awe, thanks VNF! No apologies necessary!

I still have no idea why Quen says that.

When I get the book I will start with page 1 and not stop until I hit the back cover! No jumping although I have read the 1-5 released chapters, I will read them again. I love Kim's writng style and love to keep in intact.

"I still have no idea why Quen says that."
Well, maybe we'll have a discussion on that too after we all read TUP!?

@Susan - I'm looking forward to a lot of discussion once everyone has read it. I'm looking forward to my re-read because I know I missed a lot on my first pass through. :)

LOL! I do Zeenat!

I finished around 8 :P lol 10 hours minus sleep so.... like almost 4 hours? ;) (And yeah I reread the first 5 chapters lol)
